If you're looking to add a pop of color to your makeup, sure, there are plenty of ways to do it. You could rock a bold lip or maybe a bright blush. But one of the 2017 makeup trends I'm most excited for is statement eyeliner and colorful eyes. And if you're interested in playing up your peepers, the way I'm proposing you tackle this trend is with coordinating, colorful eyeliner and mascara.

Now let's talk logistics for a minute. If you've ever tried swiping on a blue or otherwise bold mascara, you may have realized that the color doesn't really show up— especially if you have naturally dark lashes. One way to get that colored mascara to pop is by first coating your lashes with a white primer. Another way is by pairing it with a complimentary eyeliner— think violet lashes with a chartreuse liner. Not only will combining the right mascara and liner add that pop of color to your makeup, but both will help the other stand out. Talk about a win-win. And hey, if you don't have time to go all-out with a colorful smoky-eye for your mascara backdrop, simply drawing on a bright shade of liner is actually pretty quick and easy. So for maximum impact with minimal effort, here are eight vibrant mascara and eyeliner pairings to try:

1. Sapphire & Peach

Merle Norman Wicked Lash Mascara in Sapphire, $16, Merle Norman Cosmetic Studios; Too Faced Sketch Marker in Papaya Peach, $20, Sephora

Blue lashes will really stand out against a complimentary, orange hue. For a softer, yet still graphic look, opt for a lighter orange in more of a peach shade.

2. Pink & Yellow

Reminiscent of flowers on a sunny day, pink mascara pairs perfectly with a pop of yellow liner.

3. Violet & Lime Green

Purple mascara will stand out against any shade of yellow, green, or blue. For a fresh, spring take, try a liner in a bright-lime hue.

Keep it a bit more monochromatic with a red or hot pink on the lashes and a lighter, baby pink on the lids.

7. Chartreuse & Lilac

NYX Color Mascara In Perfect Pear, $12, Walmart; Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Matte Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner in Mist Me?, $25, Sephora;

Yellow lashes will pop against a variety of liners. To keep your look light, bright, and complimentary, opt for a pale purple lid.

8. Navy & Mint

Benefit They're Real Lengthening Mascara in Beyond Blue, $24, Sephora; NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner in Barrow Street, $26, Sephora;

For a darker-blue mascara that can almost pass as black, try pairing a pastel liner to really bring out the color and play up your eyes.

No matter what pairing you go for though, don't be afraid to play with color. After all, it's only makeup.
