9 Things To Know About Millennials In Bed

Ashley Batz for Bustle

It's no secret that Millennials — like any other generation — love getting steamy between the sheets. But there's a lot about Millennials and sex that may also come as a surprise, thanks to a new survey by SKYN Condoms that surveyed 3,000 men and women, ages 18-34, about their sex lives.

As Millennials, we're used to being over-analyzed. We're known as the generation of diversity, connection, and creativity. When it comes to our sexual activity, however, things get a little more nuanced. Some reports indicate that Millennials aren't having nearly as much sex as other generations. Other reports state that most Millennials do it (if not all), often before we even go on the first date. All the while, millennials are stamped with the label "hookup generation," a generation that loves to sext, swipe left, and ghost on our partners. It's an interesting time to be a Millennial.

And the reports keep coming. For the 2017 Millennial Sex Survey by SKYN Condoms, questions ranged from online hookup habits to favorite sex positions to use of lube during sex. All participants reported being sexually active and are a part of the Millennial generation. Here are nine things you may not have already known about the way Millennials hook up, according to the survey:

1

We've Embraced Dating App Hookups

These days, there is no shortage of online dating apps to choose from. There's Tinder, Bumble, Coffee Meets Bagel, Grindr, Hater...the list goes on. Clearly, online hookups are no longer a rarity or "that thing" other people do but you don't, and millennials know this all too well. Sixty-six percent of Millennials said they've slept with someone they met on a dating app, according to the survey.

2

We Have Multiple Orgasms

Half of all men who were surveyed said they've gotten off more than once during a single sexcapade, while 44 percent of women said they'd experienced the same thing. Talk about efficiency!

3

Millennial Couples Prefer Missionary

Out of the thousands of sex positions to choose from, it turns out that young couples love doing it missionary the most, the survey reports. Missionary sex is known for being highly intimate for partners, as you're both face-to-face, you're able to kiss passionately, and you're just so close together. I'm not surprised this was the winner.

4

Millennial Singles Like Doggy Style & Cowgirl

On the other hand, Millennials who are single much prefer doggy-style and cowgirl than other types of sex positions. Doggy style and cowgirl allow for some great views, plus it's easier to get naughty and rough if you're into that sort of thing.

5

The Most Sexually Active City Is...

New York City is known for being one of the most romantic cities in the world. It also happens to be the most sexually active city in the United States alone, as more Millennials get it on here than anywhere else in the country. That's got to be a lot of sex, y'all.

6

Here's Where We Have One-Night Stands

After New York, Millennials tend to have the most one-night stands in Houston (75 percent), San Francisco (71 percent), and Washington, D.C. (62 percent). Metropolitan areas are more populated (which means more restaurants, local attractions, and other potential date locations), so naturally there are more chances for us to meet someone we like.

7

Blonde Millennials Get Laid More

Turns out there's a correlation between sex and...hair color? A whopping 79 percent of blonde-haired Millennials have sex at least once a week. Millennials with black hair come in second. Brunettes, third. Redheads seem to have the least amount of sex, as only about 68 percent of them have sex once a week or more.

8

Self-Pleasure Is Important To Us

According to the survey, more Millennials are engaging in solo sex than last year — which makes sense, given that masturbation is pretty awesome. I mean, knows how to get us off better than ourselves?

9

Our Ideal Partner Is...

...someone who's hot, intelligent, and flirtatious, and also has a sense of humor. The survey also found that confidence (but not arrogance) is also key to coming across more attractive. So the next time you're at the bar and spot a cutie, say hi first. You never know what it might lead to.

If there's anything that the 2017 Millennial Sex Survey proves, it's that Millennials know exactly how to enjoy themselves in bed. Good on us, I say. Happy romping!
