These Katy Perry & Robert Pattinson Dating Rumors Will Leave Fans So Confused

When it comes to celebrity couples, there are always one or two that will surprise fans or leave them confused. And if the rumors are true, this latest pair seemingly came out of nowhere. According to TMZ, Katy Perry and Robert Pattinson were spotted together, looking cozy, at a restaurant in West Hollywood. Naturally, fans will wonder if Perry and Pattinson are dating after seeing the photos. But don't jump to any conclusions just yet; this may be a scenario where a few pictures were taken out of context. (Bustle reached out to Perry and Pattinson's reps for comment, but did not receive an immediate response.)

As for why this pairing seems unlikely, less than two weeks ago, Pattinson talked about his relationship with FKA Twigs on SiriusXM. When asked by Howard Stern about whether he was engaged, the Twilight alum said, "Yeah, kind of," according to USA Today. This then segued into the actor talking about how he prefers to keep his relationships private, because otherwise, rumors and conspiracies swirl. He told Stern,

"There’s like a crack group of crazies that think every single decision you’re making is either creating some kind of conspiracy… So you kind of think, like, to protect it, I want to create a big boundary, (but) then it’s difficult for your relationship."

Being protective of his relationship with FKA Twigs could also mean he didn't announce whether or not they split, but to say you're "kind of" engaged is tough to misinterpret. There were rumors in January that the pair put their wedding on hold, but that was never confirmed. It just sounds like maybe they're figuring things out outside of the spotlight.

For that very reason, it's entirely possible Pattinson and Perry were just dining as friends — maybe they're even collaborating on a project. It seems obvious, but is worth repeating: Eating one meal together doesn't mean two people are dating. Plus, they're not the only two seated at the table in the photos, which only furthers that idea that this was merely a friendly exchange.

If the two do wind up dating at some point, that's not to say they wouldn't be a good match. It would just seem very out of nowhere, and the timing wouldn't entirely make sense, given Pattinson's recent FKA Twigs comments.

Considering Perry has a history of speaking her mind on social media and otherwise, it's likely she'd clear up the rumors one way or another soon. So fans will just have to wait and see.
