As we're getting close to the MTV Movie & TV Awards, you've probably started watching the videos for the Best Kiss nominees, and there are some good ones. An exceptional example comes from Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, and, while you may have only the vaguest recollection of last year's crude summer comedy, but you probably remember Alice and Dave passionately sloppy make out sesh. As such, you may be wondering if Anna Kendrick and Zac Efron are friends (or, hey, even something more).

Whether you caught the film or not, you can't argue that the pairing would make a ton of sense, platonically or otherwise. They're hilarious, delightful, incredibly pleasant to look at, and would positively kill it at karaoke. I 'ship it you, 'ship it, we would all 'ship it. Romantically, though, it's a probable nah.

While Efron split from girlfriend Sami Miré last spring, Kendrick has been involved with British cinematographer Ben Richardson since 2014, and they were still going strong until at least this January. Plus, Kendrick squashed those Efron-based relationship rumors when they were first promoting the film. "He’s a good guy but for me, he was a little bit of a bad influence," the actress told news.com.au last June. I guess all that passionate table-top clawing was just for show. Womp womp.

However, the pair have definitely been close since filming the movie, and Zefron made a substantial appearance in Kendrick's book, Scrappy Little Nobody. In fact, Kendrick used a bit of black humor to sing the praises of her charming co-star. "I'm morbidly interested in Charles Manson. I've always wondered what is it about Manson that was so charismatic? Then I met Zac and was like, 'Oh, there it is,'" Kendrick revealed in the book. "I'm glad [Zac] hasn't asked me or anyone else to murder someone for him because I probably would." It's a definitely side-eye-worthy compliment, but it also feels weirdly in line with Kendrick's brand.

So I think it's safe to say that the two at least have some sort of chemistry and bond in real life that parlayed to all the fun they had on screen in Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. Maybe that'll help them snag the Best Kiss award, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

The MTV Movie Awards (hosted by the pair's co-star Adam Devine) debuts May 7 at 5:00 P.M. PDT, but you can catch Kendrick and Efron in action above.
