Does Frank Ocean Have A New Album On The Way?

You know how it's important to learn from your mistakes? For example, in the past, I have spent entirely too much time thinking about when Frank Ocean will drop his albums. I pull clues out of the smallest things — his Tumblr, live performances, paparazzi gossip. I act like an obsessive detective with a grudge in a crime thriller, trying to glean the secret codes Ocean's sharing about when he will drop music next. It's not healthy. When the guy finally dropped Blonde in August 2016 after four years of waiting for a full album, I vowed to not do the whole obsessive thing again. But here we are now, not even a year later, and I'm searching for clues Frank Ocean may have a new album on the way. Someday I'll learn... maybe. But that day is not today.

Maybe (OK, definitely) I'm just reading into things, but there's been a lot of Ocean-related activity lately. That's got to mean something, right? Right? The following are the teensy-tiny clues that make me convinced we might see a new Ocean album in a year — or maybe three or four, because he's a super perfectionist — but that's OK, it really is worth the wait.

Clue #1: His Sassy Tumblr Post

Honestly, this is a very, very slight clue. Possibly not even one. But, Ocean clapped back at the producer and writers of the Grammys for some shade they seemingly recently threw about his Grammy performance in 2013 — and his Tumblr response was seriously intense (I still get chills thinking about it). Maybe, just maybe, the reason he felt such sass is because his creative juices are flowing right now, because he's in the studio? Pretty cool theory.

Clue #2: John Mayer Talked About New Music

John Mayer, one of Ocean's collaborators and (probably) besties, shared some juicy tidbits about his pal's new music via an Instagram livestream on Wednesday, Feb. 23. Mayer told fans, "I won't say the title of [the song], it's his business, but he's doing stuff right now that's so... talk about space reggae, future reggae, that’s Frank Ocean.” At the very least, this could mean we're about to get a single. Right?

Clue #3: His Collaboration With Calvin Harris & Migos

On Thursday, Feb. 24, Calvin Harris dropped a single featuring Frank Ocean and Donald Glover's favorite Beatles-esque trio, Migos, called "Slide." So Ocean's definitely been studio adjacent ... but does that means he could also be working on stuff for his own future (reggae?) album too? I'm leaning toward yes.

Clue #4: His New Beats 1 Station

Rounding off this week of exciting Ocean news, the silver-tongued cutie also launched a surprise Beats 1 station called Blonded. It's not clear if he's going to use this station as a vehicle for new music in the future, but it's certainly possible. Drake's always dropping truth bombs and fresh jams on his radio station, OVO — most recently when he shared three new songs in October 2016. It's a thing people do.

I know I might be jumping to some pretty hefty conclusions here. I know this obsession might be taking over and I should seek help. But at the same time, what if I'm right?
