'Conviction' Season 2 Isn't Happening

by Andrea Towers
ABC

Conviction had all the right ingredients to be a hit show. It had a renowned cast who came from big fanbases (Emily Kinney from The Walking Dead and Hayley Atwell from Agent Carter), it had a strong female lead character who was both smart and rebellious, and it had a premise that was different from a lot of procedural shows. And it aired on ABC, which was home to one of the most popular recent procedurals, Castle. (It even took that show's time slot.) On Sunday, Conviction wraps its 13-episode first season run. Will Conviction return for Season 2? Unfortunately, that seems unlikely.

According to Deadline, the show wasn't given the back nine order of episodes, and ratings for the show haven't been great. After Conviction didn't seem to be the hit ABC expected, the network shifted it to Sunday nights, seemingly slowly phasing it out. Granted, there's always the chance another network or a streaming channel could pick up the show, and maybe it would fare better on someplace like Netflix or Hulu. For now, though? Fans are pretty much resigning themselves to saying goodbye to Hayes Morrison and the rest of the gang at the Conviction Integrity Unit.

I'm sad about that fact, but more sad that I won't be able to see this incredible cast each week. Fortunately, I have compiled a list of where you can find these talented actors when Conviction is no longer airing weekly.

Fans were devastated when it was announced that Atwell was signed on for a new ABC pilot last year (aka Conviction) when Agent Carter was in danger of not returning. Now they're facing sadness again at losing Atwell on their TV screens. Currently, Atwell doesn't have any other shows lined up. But never say never. The Agent Carter dream hasn't died yet, and Atwell has made it clear that she's more than willing to reprise her role as Peggy if the right opportunity were to come along. Plus, the next installment of Marvel movies, Infinity War, is currently shooting... so maybe we'll see Peggy in some flashbacks? You can also catch up on Agent Carter episodes on ABC.com.

There's no news about a new project for Kinney, but the actress is also a talented singer, so I suggest picking up her CD. And I guess there's always Walking Dead reruns, right?

Merrin Dungey

Dungey can next be seen in the new HBO series Big Little Lies, where she plays Detective Adrienne Quinnlan. The series, which also stars Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, premieres Feb. 19. Plus, there's always hope that Dungey, who played Ursula in Once Upon A Time, could return for another evil outing.

Shawn Ashmore

No new projects yet for Ashmore. But the actor is best known for his role as Bobby Drake/Iceman in the X-Men movies. With talk of Bryan Singer writing an X-Men pilot for FOX, could the newly available Ashmore join up? Ashmore also can be seen in the video game Quantum Break as Jack Joyce.

Eddie Cahill

The CSI: NY alum might be able to go back to the CSI universe in some way. For now, you can get your fill of more Cahill by catching up on the series Under The Dome.

Manny Montana

Remember Graceland on USA? That's where you can go to find Montana, who played Johnny Tuturro for two seasons. Let's hope his training with the CIU gang gave him some background so we can keep seeing him on new shows!

I hope that the cast of Conviction finds some other great shows soon. In the meantime, I'll enjoy the final episode, airing Sunday on ABC.
