It's been over a week since Hurricane Harvey began to blast through the Gulf Coast of Texas and Louisiana, but one of the few silver linings is the way people have come forward to help and support those affected. For example, a group of high-profile celebs, including Houston native, Beyoncé, will participate in a Hurricane Harvey telethon to raise money for the recovery process. In Houston alone, a reported 50 inches of rain was received, so this telethon can't come too soon. When the Hurricane Harvey telethon airs, fans should tune in to help give back to those in need.
Tons of organizations received contributions to aid in disaster relief, and high-profile celebrities reached deep into their pockets to make generous donations. The efforts are far from being over, though. Thus, the telethon, called Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Harvey, will air on September 12 at 8 p.m. ET, with a West Coast replay at 8 p.m. PT. Beyoncé will be in good company, as other participants include George Clooney, Oprah Winfrey, Julia Roberts, Reese Witherspoon, Barbra Streisand, and more.
This event is pulling in even better stars than the Oscars usually does, and that's really quite uplifting — which is the whole point of the event, as stated in its press release. "Hand in Hand will bring the country together to raise funds, spirits and help rebuild Texas in the wake of this unprecedented devastation," the organization stated. Phone lines will open at the beginning of the one hour show. And, yes, if you call, there is a tiny chance that you will be able to speak to Queen Bey if you donate.
You might want to set an alarm for this one, especially since it's only going to last one hour. Access to the show is not limited, however, since it will be airing on ABC, CBS, CMT, FOX, and NBC, with livestreams on Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube. Even if Beyoncé isn't answering phones herself — it would be a surprise if Beyoncé even answered her own phone since she's so busy being the best — she will likely be doing some sort of tribute, which is sure to be amazing considering how important Houston is to Bey.
The Houston native has already released a heartfelt statement following the hurricane, stating that she plans to use her foundation, BeyGOOD, "to help as many as we can," and it wouldn't be a surprise if she made a donation even greater than the Kardashians' $500K. The Hand in Hand telethon's goal to help each of the 30,000 people who had to evacuate their homes during Hurricane Harvey is a pretty noble one — star studded line-up or not.
