The glitz, the glamor, the theme... there's nothing quite like the Met Gala red carpet. If this year's event follows suit, it's sure to be a feast for the eyes of fashion lovers everywhere. Thus, you might be wondering: How long is the 2017 Met Gala red carpet? Because unfortunately all good things come to an end — although in this case, I'm sure many of us would like it to last forever.

It might seem silly to think of what is basically a celebrity event, as inspirational. But the Met Gala red carpet is no ordinary red carpet. Not only is the ball a fundraising event for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, but the gala celebrates the opening of the Costume Institute’s spring 2017 exhibition too. The Met Gala takes on the theme of the exhibition, so attendees must dress accordingly. This year, the exhibition is Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons: Art of the In-Between and features Kawakubo’s designs for Comme des Garçons from 1981 to her latest collection. From The Manchu Dragon: Costumes of China, the Chi'ng Dynasty theme in 1980 to a Dangerous Liaisons: Fashion and Furniture in the 18th Century inspired ball in 2004, the Met Gala themes are nothing short of extraordinary.

If you want to stay up to date with live news straight from the red carpet, you'll need to know how long it lasts so you can plan accordingly. So how long is the 2017 Met Gala red carpet?

Considering that United Press International reported that this year's Met Gala won't be televised, it's hard to say. When E! covered last year's ball, news of the coverage and the times of the specific events of the evening were available for all to access. But of course, this year could be a whole other story considering it's not being televised to the masses.

However, we could go on the schedule of last year's festivities. Last year, Heavy reported on the Met Gala 2016 schedule of events. According to Heavy, the pre-show started at 7 p.m. ET/PT, then the red carpet commenced 7.30 — 9 p.m. ET/PT. So if this year's red carpet is set to begin at the same time as last year's, you'll want to get your phone, tablet, or laptop poised on social media, with you favorite snacks and beverages to hand for 7 p.m. so you don't miss a moment. This could mean that the red carpet will be at least an hour and a half. If you visit the bathroom beforehand, chances are, you won't miss anything if you're bladder is playing ball on May 1.

Unless you have a ticket to the 2017 Met Gala, you'll likely be in the dark about the deets of this year's red carpet like the rest of us are right now. Although if you keep checking social media on the day, you'll likely discover the media outlets who are covering it so you can choose which coverage you want to follow.
