After months of speculation, the moment One Direction fans have been waiting for is finally here: Liam Payne and Cheryl welcomed their first child. While E! News seemed to be the first to break the news on Saturday, Payne confirmed the baby's birth himself via the sweetest Instagram photo.
The singer captioned the snapshot with his son with a heartfelt message. Payne wrote,
My close friends and family know there are very few times when I'm left speechless... wow! I'm incredibly happy to welcome our new baby boy into the world, it's a moment that I will never forget for the rest of my life and my favourite memory I have so far.
Not only did he gush over his son, who apparently has yet to be named, but Payne made sure to honor Cheryl, the baby's mother. Referencing his girlfriend, the 1D star wrote, "I'm completely in awe of his incredible mother and how she has been the whole way through this, she's really made my dreams come true."
Highlighting an instance of perfect timing, Payne ended his post by writing, "Happy Mother's Day everyone!" You've got to appreciate him giving credit where credit is due. And even though the holiday isn't officially until May in the U.S., the U.K. celebrates Mother's Day on Sunday, March 26 this year — just one day after Payne's baby announcement.
It's definitely a happy time for Payne and Cheryl. And I, for one, am already rooting for playdates between this baby boy and Louis Tomlinson's own son Freddie. They're a future boy band in the making, for sure.
In the meantime, I'll just be staring at this super sweet photo and extending a major congratulations to these new parents.
