You Could Be ModCloth's Next Skirt Designer With Their Latest Contest

When it comes to vintage styles and quirky and adorable fashions, is there another retailer that can top ModCloth? From their cat-themed selections to their circle skirts, they've got tons to offer. Now, ModCloth's Make the Cut Contest is encouraging you to design their next skirt, and it's the perfect opportunity to embrace your love of ModCloth and flex those design chops.

Where did the idea for the contest come from? Customers' love of existing skirts, of course. ModCloth's Cotton A-line Skirt with Pockets is a circle silhouette, and the example piece features adorable, multi-colored pencil details along the bottom hemline. Cute color pencils and pockets? Does it get better? Actually, it does because the skirt is also size-inclusive beginning at size XXS and ending with size 4X. With the pencil pattern as the inspiration, the contest clearly has education in mind, and that's exactly what the contest is asking of participants.

The theme for the contest is Back-To-School and designs should feature an emphasis on education. Whether that means skirts that feature teachers, students, or learning related designs is up to the creator. While Back-To-School is an overarching theme, it's also broad enough to encourage some serious creativity, and since the deadline for submissions isn't until Oct. 18 at 11:59 PM ET, there's still plenty of time to craft your back-to-school perfect look.

How do you enter and what are the specifics? ModCloth has laid out the entire contest and its rules over on their blog. In order to submit your design, you must be 18 years old and live in the United States. Outside of contestant qualifiers, though, come the details on what you can expect if you choose to submit a design.

First up: how do you enter? ModCloth has made the process incredibly simple. Head to Twitter or Instagram, upload an image of your originally created inspiration image, tag ModCloth or use the hashtag #MaketheCutContest, and hello, contest entry. The retailer's judges will then pick four of the designs from those submitted on social media. Once the four finalists have been chosen, ModCloth fans will be in charge of voting on their favorites. The winning print will then be translated into a ModCloth skirt in the A-line silhouette, and you'll officially have helped craft the design.

Other than having helped craft the skirt, what else can you win? The first place designer will receive a $500 gift card to ModCloth — hello, shopping spree. The three runner-ups will each receive a $100 gift card.

If you're worried about entering the contest because you have no design experience, don't be. It's not a requirement. In fact, ModCloth has given interested fans a wide array of options when it comes to submitting their design inspiration. The ModCloth blog about the contest explains, "Get creative! It can be a photograph, drawing/sketch/painting, craft project, or a digitally generated graphic—something that gives us an idea of how we can bring your inspo to life!" If sketching isn't your thing, but you're a wiz with a glue gun, ModCloth is still all in with your design.

One look at the #MakeTheCutContest hashtag, and you'll see photographs, digital designs, and hand drawn sketches. Clearly, the retailer wanted to be sure that everyone with their creative juices flowing could be part of the contest, and the result is sure to be talent showcased everywhere across the internet.

If you've got an inner Ms. Frizzle that you need to embrace, are an educator, a passionate education advocate, or just a lover of ModCloth, the Make the Cut Contest is the perfect time to embrace your creative side. You don't have forever, though, so happy designing, creators!
