He's one of those people who really can do no wrong when it comes to his choice of movie roles, his acting, and (in my opinion) his ability to walk so dreamily down the street. So when I saw Ryan Gosling on the Oscars red carpet, I hardly even noticed he was wearing a particularly peculiar ruffled shirt.
The actor, who was nominated in the Best Actor category for his role as Sebastian in La La Land, strolled onto the red carpet looking his usual dapper self. He had on a classy black bowtie, a sleek black tux, and perfectly swept back movie star hair. Oh, and that dashing thousand yard stare that serves him so well.
But then there was that shirt — a while ruffled number that became difficult to ignore. Reactions on Twitter started off as pure adoration for the star, but quickly took on a more "wtf?" vibe as everyone tried to figure out what, exactly, Gosling had on.
Some compared his look to the ruffly shirts from Harry Potter. Others thought he was was giving off a sexy retro vibe, but maybe one that was a bit too 80s. Take a look at the hilarious reactions below. But first, have a gander at the shirt in question.
It may be tough to zero in on a "problem" at first, but eventually the eye falls on the ruffles.
Some people called them "tragic."
Others immediately thought of this look from Harry Potter.
It's not that the ruffles were a problem, per se. Maybe just the style of the ruffles?
It might have been the 80s vibe.
Or the fact they made him look ready for a retro prom?
Most people, however, were too stunned to notice.
