Selena Gomez's Mom Approves Of The Weeknd

I've long been a fan of the blossoming relationship between Selena Gomez and The Weeknd, and now I'm in even better company: Gomez's mother approves of her daughter's relationship. Hip hip, hooray! Hip hip, hooray!

Gomez has always been close with her mother, Mandy Teefey, so even though she's a fully-grown adult, I imagine her mom's approval still means a lot to her. The pair has probably already spoken quite a bit about Gomez's dating life behind closed doors and embraced The Weeknd into their family, but this is the first time since they began dating in January 2017 that Teefey has gone public with her positive feelings about Gomez's new boyfriend.

That alone would be sweet enough, but what makes this situation even cuter is the particular way that Teefey shared her feelings. She didn't make a big production out of it, like doing an interview or releasing some kind of statement. Instead, she did what any of our moms would do and liked a photo of the two on The Weeknd's Instagram post of himself and Gomez together at the Met Gala on Monday night, reportedly along with a cute comment.

On the photo, which shows The Weeknd looking straight into the camera, one arm around Gomez in her plunging, delicately patterned blush gown, Teefey left a little note from the account for her production company Kicked to the Curb Productions, according to multiple sources. Teefey reportedly wrote, "Glowing, smiling, looking health and equal love. Mama is happy, XO." Awww. Celeb moms, they're just like us.

And that might have been it, with no one ever the wiser, except that Gomez is one of the more famous people on the planet right now, and her fans don't miss a trick. And one of them, who styles themselves as Selena Gomez News on Twitter, noticed the comment and shared it with their followers:

Which is how we all came to know that Gomez's mom supports her relationship. And if you follow kicked2thecurbproductions on Instagram, you can see that she also liked the post. Like any loving parent, Teefey is happy when her daughter is happy, so it's great to know that things are going as well behind-the-scenes as they are in the spotlight.

Gomez and The Weeknd looked happy and at ease together at the Met Gala, so not that anyone asked me, but I'd just like to state for the record that I agree with Teefey. I, too, endorse this relationship, and as a stranger on the internet living vicariously through your love, I give the couple my sincerest blessing.
