The Best Christmas Classics To Stream This Weekend

by Mary Grace Garis
Buena Vista Pictures

Finally, you've left your office, you've finished your shopping, and you have some hard-earned downtime. True, it might be while stranded in an airport or holed up in your childhood bedroom, but whatever the setting, you can catch up to your favorite Christmas classics on Netflix. The only thing is, you don't have 12 days of Christmas to marathon watch every single title. But I do have 12 solid Christmas movies and specials that you should be able to look into, just before all your horrible relatives arrive.

From the '90s flicks that made your childhood bright to the rom-coms that fill your season with feels, I have everything you could possibly want to load up on before the holiday season wraps up. And, best of all, I have it all available to stream right now, so all you really need is a laptop, a charger, and some headphones to drown out all that hustle and bustle happening around you. You're not going to let anyone come between you and your merry Christmas movies any longer.

Scroll down for some of the best holiday options to fill your weekend with nothing but tidings of joy... and probably a few laughs, if you're lucky.

1

'The Santa Clause'

This Tim Allen gem is one of the most memorable and still earnestly enjoyable Christmas films. Why? Scott Calvin's sarcasm makes him an incredibly memorably Santa Claus, and, honestly, I've always had a thing for head elf Bernard (played by adorable Nice Jewish Boy David Krumholtz).

2

'Love Actually'

OK, whatever, you put it off all season because you were trying to hold onto your Christmas dignity. But nobody's going to judge you from the comfort of your mom's place, so queue up the fuzzy rom-com and keep the tissues at the ready.

3

'Miracle on 34th Street' (1994)

OK, it isn't the classic black-and-white version. However, this remake is helmed by John Hughes and an adorable baby Mara Wilson takes up the Natalie Wood role. You could do worse.

4

'Just Friends'

If you're feeling something a little raunchy that taps into all your aggravated home-for-the-holidays feelings, Ryan Reynolds has you covered.

5

'The Search For Santa Paws'

"Don't knock it 'till you try it," said my roommate Emily.

6

'Mickey’s Magical Christmas: Snowed In At The House Of Mickey Mouse'

You can spend a lot of the the holiday season with Mickey and fam on Netflix, so why not start by getting snowed in with these holiday shorts?

7

'White Christmas'

This vintage vistavision song-and-dance romp is marvelous. I watch it at least three times a year for the costumes alone.

8

'Happy Christmas'

It's a very millenial anti-holiday with Anna Kendrick, Lena Dunham, and a whoooole lot of pot-smoking. It's an indie worth peaking into, especially once Kendrick's Jenny starts bonding with her sister-in-law over creating the next Fifty Shades of Grey.

9

'Scrooged'

If you watch one re-telling of A Christmas Carol this season, watch the one with Bill Murray.

10

'A Very Murray Christmas'

If you watch one Netflix original special this season, watch the one with Bill Murray (seriously, I shouldn't have to sell you on this National Treasure, but I will).

11

'A Christmas Kiss'

If you've cycled through all the good stuff and need to pick out one Lifetime-y pick, let this be it. I will still vouch that it is adorable in its hokeyness.

12

'Mariah Carey's Merriest Christmas'

She's all you could hear while shopping at the mall this season, so you might as well commit and spend your weekend with the ultimate Christmas Queen.

You're welcome and happy holidays, my fellow Christmas lover. As always, Netflix has you covered.
