The 21 Most Underrated Rom-Coms Of All Time, From 'Leap Year' To 'The Break-Up'

There's a lot of rom-coms out there and understandably, when you're in the mood to watch one, you are probably going to choose the classics you've most likely seen hundreds of times. Pretty In Pink, When Harry Met Sally, You've Got Mail, Notting Hill — all of these are excellent choices. But there are plenty of underrated rom-coms you should see immediately, too. This is a genre bursting at the seams with great choices, so why choose the standbys?

Since the dawn of film, rom-coms have been made. There's so many that have hit theaters since the late '20s and '30s that you'd be remiss in skipping over some the classic but possibly overshadowed titles, even if you're an occasional movie-watcher. Have you ever seen It Happened One Night, which actually won an Oscar? Or Ball of Fire, which is full of great one-liners and some good jazz music? Maybe you want to take a trip through the '60s and '70s, where free love and offbeat romances were the order of the day, mirroring the free love vibes of the times and infusing it into familiar rom-com plots.

Falling in love has always been a popular subject in films. As it happens, the ways in which the following movies show their characters falling in love is as entertaining as the classic, but you're going to love the new and exciting ways in which they depict some classic rom-com archetypes.

Take that, You've Got Mail.
