Bustle's Editors On Scalise + 'Bachelor In Paradise'

by Melissa Mills

You're halfway through the work week way to go! If you're a glass-half-empty kind of a person, you're probably thinking that you've still got two days of work ahead of you, but if you're more of a glass-half-full type, you're probably already making your weekend plans. Either way, you've made it through a very busy news day. Here's what you might've missed today, June 14:

GOP + Shooting

Early Wednesday morning, GOP congressman Steve Scalise of Louisiana was shot at a baseball training field in Alexandria, Virginia. Scalise was practicing for an annual baseball game with other members of the House when a gunman opened fire. Thankfully officers were able to contain the incident quickly, and Scalise who was shot in the hip is said to be in stable condition. President Trump later confirmed that the shooter, identified as James T. Hodgkinson, a 66-year-old man from Illinois, is dead.

Though the morning's chaos has ended, the horror is far from over. Democratic congressmen are now reportedly receiving phone calls saying they're "next". Trump called for unity following the shooting saying, “We are strongest when we are unified and when we work together for the common good. Please take a moment today to cherish those you love and always remember those who serve and keep us safe.”

Beyoncé + Twins

Is Beyoncé in labor? That's the question on everyone's mind after rumors started to swirl that Bey & co. were at Los Angeles hospital because a "significant amount of security" was spotted. There still hasn't been an official statement about whether or not the rumor's true or when the twins are coming, so until then we'll all have to wait patiently. Or, you know, continue to freak out on Twitter.

Corinne + Bachelor In Paradise

It's been quite a week for Bachelor fans. On Sunday, it was reported that filming for Bachelor In Paradise was halted after allegations of misconduct. Rumors began swirling that Corinne Olympios and DeMario Jackson had something to do with the alleged "misconduct". Now, Olympios is speaking out for the first time in a statement to Bustle:

“I am a victim and have spent the last week trying to make sense of what happened on June 4. Although I have little memory of that night, something bad obviously took place, which I understand is why production on the show has now been suspended and a producer on the show has filed a complaint against the production. As a woman, this is my worst nightmare and it has now become my reality. As I pursue the details and facts surrounding that night and the immediate days after, I have retained a group of professionals to ensure that what happened on June 4 comes to light and I can continue my life, including hiring an attorney to obtain justice and seeking therapy to begin dealing with the physical and emotional trauma stemming from that evening.”

This is just so sad. There's no other way to put it. Jackson has also responded to the incident, but only time will tell what will happen for the Bachelor Nation stars and the entire franchise.
