Bustle's Editors On McKayla Maroney + Donald Trump

by Rachel Simon

Happy hump day, everyone! This month is seriously speeding by — it's hard to believe it's already Oct. 18.

Today was a pretty heavy day for news, from the controversy over Donald Trump's phone call to the widow of a soldier to the reactions to gymnast McKayla Maroney's reveal that she was allegedly sexually abused for several years. For more on those subjects and much else, read on for a recap of everything that had Bustle's editors talking this Wednesday:

McKayla Maroney + #MeToo

One of the latest celebrities to speak out about sexual assault is Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney, who posted a heartbreaking #MeToo story on Twitter Wednesday morning. Maroney, who won gold with the U.S. team at the 2012 games, claimed that she'd been sexually abused by the team's doctor for years. Bravo to Maroney for speaking up and adding her voice to the masses of women and men sharing their powerful stories.

FYI: #MeToo may be a major trend right now, but meet the woman who actually started the movement 10 years ago.

Trump + Fallen Soldiers

Many outlets are reporting that Trump allegedly made insensitive remarks during a phone call to the widow of a soldier who'd died in battle. Trump denies the reports, but allegedly, he told the woman that her late husband "knew what he was signing up for" when he went to war, "but I guess it hurts anyway." Obviously, many people are outraged, and in an interview, the soldier's mother, Cowanda Jones-Johnson, said that Trump "did disrespect" her son.

Facepalm: The EPA might soon ban scientists. From its science-advisory board. Yup. Cool.

LEGO + Women In STEM

Well, this is seriously awesome: LEGO has introduced a Women of NASA set, featuring female figurines representing famous women in STEM. You can now buy LEGO versions of astronomer and educator Nancy Grace Roman, computer scientist Margaret Hamilton, and astronauts Sally Ride and Mae Jemison, as well as a 231-piece set allowing you to build the Hubble Space Telescope, the Space Shuttle Challenger, and more. Way to go, LEGO.

Fun Fact: Millennial pink is out — apparently, it's all about Gen Z Yellow now. Say what?!

Tommy Hilfiger + Disability

In a great and much-needed move for the fashion industry, Tommy Hilfiger has introduced a clothing line made for people with disabilities. The brand's adult adaptive clothing collection includes features like adjusted seams, Velcro closures, leg openings and more, and it's truly wonderful to see such a popular brand make this big, important step for inclusivity.

Gilmore Girls + Another Season

Relax, relax — there's no second season of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life happening just yet. But it definitely could happen, at least if this new piece of information is to judge. According to Netflix, more viewers finished 2016's A Year In The Life in less than 24 hours than any other series offered on the service. With an audience like that, it would certainly not be shocking if more Gilmore Girls will come our way. Fingers crossed, GG fans.

Seriously?! Here's all the proof you need that Kylie Jenner is totally trolling us all about her reported pregnancy. Sigh.

Today's WTF Moment: Your brain might be able to tell you you're dead, after you die. Sweet dreams tonight, everyone!
