What's Luke Pell Been Doing Since JoJo's 'Bachelorette' Season? He's Dealt With Some Off-Screen Drama

ABC/Lorenzo Bevilaqua

Luke Pell was a fan favorite and stand out contestant on JoJo Fletcher's season of The Bachelorette. He seemed like something out of a Nicholas Sparks novel with his southern charm and grand romantic gestures. Then he almost became the Bachelor, reportedly losing out last minute to Nick Viall. Luke hasn't pursued a TV romance in the Bachelor world since the reported switch up, that is until he was announced as a contestant on the upcoming Bachelor Winter Games. So, what has Luke been doing since JoJo's season? A lot has been going on for him.

It seems like it can be tricky to go from total anonymity to being a public figure trying to live and date in the modern world of social media. Luke ran into a handful of controversies pretty quickly after his time on The Bachelorette. Luke spoke to Entertainment Tonight about his upcoming appearance on Bachelor Winter Games and also his side of why he ended up in some hot water after his initial TV appearance. He said about his playboy reputation:

"I went through a phase where I learned a lot about how intentional you have to be about who you talk to, who you begin to date or not date. Or not trust. And that was post-Bachelorette for me. And so I began to hold my cards a lot closer to my chest. And maybe somebody that's wanting some attention from the tabloids, that's not getting it, and maybe I didn't end up in a relationship with them and it becomes a thing."

Tabloid stories became a common occurrence for Luke after The Bachelorette. In the clip below, Luke addresses a rumor that he tried to convince women to go on what would have been his season of The Bachelor. One of these women, Arielle Snyder, made a YouTube video telling her alleged side of the story. She claims Luke encouraged her to go on The Bachelor and allegedly even promised she would win, but that he allegedly disappeared after he wasn't chosen to be the lead.

Luke defended himself against her claims on Entertainment Tonight, saying, "No. There is no truth in it other than that I've interacted with these two women. I talked to one of them. I dated the other."

Aside from dealing with rumors and allegations about him, Luke's been focusing on his music. Luke spoke to Nashville Scene about his time on The Bachelorette as well as how it affected his music career as a country artist. "It’s been great because there are more fans, and they have been exposed to my story and to the music that I write. That’s been cool," he said. "But at the same time it’s [a] very double-edged sword, because from an industry perspective ... they just assume and want to brand me as being, ‘Oh, he’s the Bachelor TV guy trying to come be a country artist and songwriter.’"

Luke was an aspiring musician before appearing on The Bachelorette, and the show didn't really focus much on his music career — that spotlight went to fellow contestant James Taylor, who was also a Nashville musician.

Still, fans soon learned of Luke's music dreams and paid attention. And, Luke is still performing today, long after his Bachelorette season. He posted the above Instagram of him working in the studio and has done live performances since the show, like this one on Today In Nashville. Recently, he also announced 2018 tour dates on Twitter.

Bachelor Winter Games will showcase Luke in a new light on a sporty competition show, and it will be interesting to see what comes of that appearance. Tune in Feb. 13 on ABC to see him back on your TV.
