People In These States Are Totally Living Their Best Lives

Have you ever sat back and thought about how sexually satisfied you were? Would you be able to rate it on a scale from 1 to 100? That's what Lovely, a sex toy and app, asked 432 couples across America to do. Surveyed from January to August, every state except Alaska was represented in the data that amounted to 2,160 sexual encounters. Of the 432 couples included, 12 identified as gay. The couples anonymously rated their sexual satisfaction on a scale of 1 to 100. Placing between 70 to 100 indicated a complete satisfaction, 50 to 69 were satisfied but looking to change things up, and 30 to 49 meant they were OK with their sex life but it could definitely be improved.

“The most surprising finding from our study is that the usual sex of participating couples lasts 12 minutes — it's much longer than what the other studies show (on average it's around seven minutes). However, when you think about it, it makes sense — Lovely slows down blood circulation in the erectile tissue, helping penis owners to maintain a fuller erection for longer," Jakub Konik, CEO of Lovely Inc, tells Bustle

While the average rate of sexual satisfaction, in and around those 12 minutes, for surveyed couples was 70 points out of 100, the results were extremely varied state to state. Interestingly enough, the most and least satisfied weren't regional, but instead were often bordering each other. Take Oregon for example, the home of Portlandia, sexual satisfaction was at a mere 49 points. However, it's bordered by Washington at 71 points, Idaho at 80 points, Nevada at 70 points, and California at 78 points.

Utah found itself rated the lowest for sexual satisfaction at 46 points. If you're from Utah, it may be time to evaluate what's missing from creating your best sex life. “Our number one advice is always to improve your sex-related communication," Konik says. "You need to understand what your partner desires and vice-versa, but not everyone is open enough to communicate that in a proper way."

Fortunately, a wide range of states were found to be extremely happy with their sex life. Read on to see the most sexually satisfied states in America and check out the rest of the list here.

1

Kentucky

Coming in first at 90 points, Kentucky is the most sexually satisfied state in America, according to the survey. If you were only planning on heading here because you heard the fried chicken was really good, you might want to adapt your plans — Kentucky is in it to win it.

2

Maine

Heading up north, Maine comes in second with couples giving their sex lives an average of 89 points. Maybe it has to do with that fact that lobster is apparently an aphrodisiac. Go for a bite and see if its effects do the trick.

3

Minnesota

Home to the twin cities, Minnesota knows a thing or two about connections. At 87 points, it was rated third for sexual satisfaction.

4

Iowa

Tying with its neighbor to the north, Iowa was also at 87 points. While you may not have considered visiting this midwestern state in the past, you might have just found your reason to go.

5

Alabama

The heart of roll tide and Southern pride came in at 86 points. I found Alabama's high placement interesting considering from 2003 to 2014, oral and anal sex were both prohibited by law in the state. On the other hand, maybe that gave these acts a sexier edge.

6

Colorado

Heading west, Colorado proves that its got more than legalized weed and good skiing. Couples gave the centennial state a score of 84 points for sexual satisfaction. Hey, you need to find some way to get warm after all that time on the slopes.

7

Ohio

Heading over the great lakes region, Ohio scored equally to Colorado, also at 84 points. They might not have legalized weed, but they still have great sex.

8

Wyoming

While I really don't recommend having sex in Yellowstone National Park, it's a good thing to keep in mind for after your day of hiking. This beaut of a state scored 83 points with surveyed couples.

9

Mississippi

While it may be on the other side of the country, the residents of Mississippi are just as sexually satisfied as those in Wyoming, also rating their state as 83 points.

10

North Carolina

If you watched One Tree Hill, you already know that the residents of North Carolina are having some pretty great sex. Now there's a survey to confirm it with North Carolina scoring 82 points for sexual satisfaction.

11

Oklahoma

Tied with North Carolina, Oklahoma couples also gave their state an 82 point rating for sexual satisfaction. Much higher than it's southern neighbor Texas, which only scored 55 points.

Does your state stack up to how you feel about your sex life? You deserve to have the most satisfied sex life possible, so go out there and have it — no matter what state you live in.
