Most of Taylor Swift's past romances have been pretty high-profile, from her year-long relationship with Calvin Harris to her short-lived but very publicized time with Harry Styles. Yet Swift's current love story has been much more under the radar than most of her past ones. Even the singer's biggest fans aren't quite sure when Swift and Joe Alwyn met, as the duo have kept their reported romance super low-key — despite it possibly being the subject of Swift's new single off Reputation, "Ready For It."

It's unclear exactly when Swift and Alwyn first crossed paths, but it looks like it was sometime in 2016. Back in November of that year, Swift attended a screening of Alwyn's film, Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, and while it's not confirmed if she already knew the actor before attending the event, it seems likely. Yet even if they did know each other back then, they might've not started dating until early 2017. According to E!'s sources in a June article, Swift "met Joe last year but they haven't started dating till just recently." So while the stars might've been friendly for awhile, their romantic relationship might be fairly new.

It's possible that it was none other than one of Swift and Alwyn's famous friends who actually brought them together as a couple. In February 2017, Alwyn started filming the movie The Favourite, which also stars Emma Stone — aka one of Swift's longtime pals. Having Stone as a mutual friend could've totally helped move things along for Swift and Alwyn if the trio all hung out together.

Regardless of when exactly they met or started dating, though, Swift and Alwyn seem to be doing just fine together these days. Although their rumored romance is super low-profile — they never post about each other or are even ever spotted together in public — it seems to still be going strong. A recent People article claims that the duo frequently visit each other (Alwyn is currently based in the U.K.) and that they're "very happy together" despite the long-distance. And if the lyrics of Swift's newest single, "Ready For It," are any indication, then their romance seriously seems to be in the best shape possible.
