When Does 'Atlanta' Come Back?

by Lakecia Hammond

Atlanta fans were already promised a second season when FX renewed the series after only a handful of episodes. The show's second season was initially set to premiere in Fall of 2017, but series star and creator Donald Glover took on the role of Lando Calrissian in the Star Wars Han Solo prequel. Now everyone is dying to know when we can expect Atlanta to come back for Season 2. TVLine reported that Atlanta won't return 2018, a delay that FX said was "due to Glover's production schedule," according to the publication.

The Golden Globe-winning series follows Earnest (played by Atlanta native Donald Glover) help put his cousin Paper Boi on the map in a city saturated by break-out rappers and hip hop artists. Earnest finds those humps in business tend to overflow to to his personal life and relationships. Basically, everyone's just trying to make it in a world that is designed to be against them. Though there isn't a specific date set in stone for season two, we know we'll get our fix in 2018. Glover told AdWeek that he plans on making it palatable for existing Atlanta fans.

"I don't want to sit there and be like, 'Oh, I don't care what the audience thinks.' It does matter to me. I just want them to think, to be honest. I want them to think about it. I think Season 2 will be affected by how people take in the food we're giving them, essentially. I don't know what that means, but I want to see how it all fits with them. Because I think that's part of our making art is that we're in this together. It's a dance, really."

What attracted me to Atlanta was that it would be shot in neighborhoods I pass by on a daily basis and the series has an all black writers' room. It will be interesting to see the series explore tropes and find humor in life's inconsistencies when Season 2 makes it to the screen next year.
