Recently, Victoria's Secret added ten new angels to their already stunning host of models. Now, two of them, Elsa Hosk and Jac Jagaciak, say Victoria's Secret needs a plus size model, and I couldn't agree more! The brand has long been the subject of admiration for girls aspiring to "perfect" bodies, and the introduction of a plus size girl will be a truly body positive move after the brand has undergone criticism for some of their marketing tactics.
In October of last year, Victoria's Secret underwent heavy criticism when they released their controversial marketing campaign entitled, "The Perfect Body." Now, with a brand known for promoting body standards that are just not realistic for the average person, this campaign was quite problematic. That's exactly why all-girl lingerie company Dear Kate responded in a big way. The company released their own campaign, but where the Victoria's Secret ad featured ten models with nearly identical slim bodies, the Dear Kate image showed ten completely different women when varying body types in a fantastic body positive display. It wasn't long before Victoria's Secret had decided to drop the controversial slogan. The famous lingerie maker rebranded with the slogan, "A Body for Every Body."
With the brand's hopeful move toward body positivity, the angels of the brand seem to think that the next step is the addition of a plus size angel. While promoting the lingerie company in Times Square, new angel Elsa Hosk said, “I think the whole world is more open to plus-size [models] and I am sure at some point [Victoria’s Secret] will be ready for it." While Hosk doesn't explicitly say that VS will be adding a plus size angel, her acknowledgement of the brand's— and the world's— moving forward is hopefully a sign of things to come.
So who would be a great choice? I've got a handful of ideas.
1. Robin Lawley
I'm sure everyone would agree that Lawley's got the flowing locks and gorgeous features that most angels have.
2. Tess Holliday
In my dreams, Tess Holliday is a Victoria's Secret angel.
3. Ashley Graham
Ashley Graham has aleady been featured in a swimsuit on the pages of a magazine. She should definitely head over to the VS catwalk.
4. Olivia Campbell
This photo is proof enough that Campbell is destined to be an angel.
5. Denise Bidot
This plus size model is stunning, and she'd be an amazing choice.
