A Timeline Of The Average ‘Big Brother’ Showmance

by Emily Lackey

Ahh, love. As unique and amazing as it feels to us as we live it, it’s amazing how the timeline of most relationships are relatively the same. There’s the meeting, there’s the dating, there’s wooing, and then there’s the wedding —or, y'know, something like that. And in the Big Brother house, it’s no different. Every single Big Brother showmance starts to look like all the rest in the way they progress and are tested. And that timeline is very different from the timeline of a real-life relationship. With the houseguests under crazy amounts of stress all day, everyday, their showmances are compressed and exaggerated like crazy. They have to figure out fast if they trust each other or are just using each other to get ahead, and they need to count on each other for survival in the house. (Not to mention, the constant threat of being forced apart by eviction.)

Yeah. Their timeline is definitely a little different than any relationship you’ve probably been in.

While it might take you a year (or more!) to move in with someone you like, the Big Brother houseguests are already living with their beloveds. So, what other phases does the average Big Brother showmance go through? Let's break it down.

The Awkward Flirting

When the houseguests are first in the house, they don’t know where they stand or whether anyone else is up for a little showmance. But, that one guy over there is looking pretty cute... so they just happen to mention, pretty loudly, that they’re 100 percent single.

The Honeymoon

They snuggle on the couch. They take over the two-person hammock. And, if they win HoH, you better believe they’re going to take advantage of the alone time.

The House Takeover

Confident in their alliance — sealed with a kiss! — the two try to get as many players on their side as possible.

The Nomination

Commence panicked attempt to get back into everyone’s good graces... and a ton of sad snuggling. It’s like senior year of high school all over again. You have to get it in while you still can.

The Eviction

Cue awkward, public end to the relationship. You can count on the houseguests pledging everlasting allegiance to their love, and a reminder that it’s only a few more weeks until they can be together.

Brace yourselves, lovebirds. The end is definitely coming.

Things change so quickly in the Big Brother house, it can be hard to keep up.
