Emma Stone & Ryan Gosling Are BFFs IRL

by Maitri Suhas

Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are coming together on the screen for the third time in La La Land. Photos from the set were released earlier this week and the pair looked right at home working together on the new film from Whiplash director Damien Chazelle. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone have a history of being electric in their films together, with their crazy chemistry in 2011's Crazy, Stupid, Love and then again in Gangster Squad. But Stone, 26, and Gosling, 34, don't just turn it on for the cameras. They're one of the lucky few in the world who are able to call each other pals. And it's no wonder they do such a convincing job of being in love on-screen — they're practically obsessed with each other in real life, too.

Some co-stars definitely don't work well together, but Stone and Gosling LOVE each other, to the point that it probably irritates their other co-workers and/or significant others (although I suppose that's not a problem for Stone anymore, since she and Andrew Garfield broke up *sob*). Even though the actress said that she wouldn't be able to choose between Bradley Cooper or Ryan Gosling as her favorite co-star, I know who her fave is. Here's proof that Gosling and Stone are platonic soulmates off-screen:

She Loves His Brain

Apparently Gos has everything: brains and brawn. Talking to Cameron Crowe for Interview Magazine, Stone said that even though Gosling is, of course, a bonafide babe, she's into his mind the most: "I've asked him to read a couple of scripts. I just really like hearing his viewpoint because I know that it's never going to be tainted. He's very much his own person. It has really just been scripts so far, because I only met him two years ago when we did Crazy Stupid Love but it was like meeting a member of your team or something. I really like his brain."

They Sometimes Have Too Much Fun On Set

While they were promoting Gangster Squad, their second film together, Gosling said in an interview with Clevver News that they actually had a bit of a difficult time on set since they got along so well. "We had such a great time on Crazy, Stupid, Love, but we had to be serious on this movie, which was very hard for us. Once you've been a knucklehead in front of somebody, it's kind of hard to sit there and pretend you're Humphrey Bogart," he said. They pulled it off, though, and their chemistry in Gangster Squad was suave and serious.

He Likes Her So Much, He's Done Being Polite To Her

In a red carpet interview at the premiere of Gangster Squad, HollyScoop asked Gosling what it was that drew him back to working with Stone again and again. Besides the fact that she "owed him money," Gosling said their rapport and their history working together allowed him to stop being polite and start being real.

She Teases Back, Too

What are friends for if not talking smack to, jokingly? In a press junket for Crazy, Stupid, Love, Stone joked that Gosling was impossible to work with and had no career ahead of him. And as for working with him? "It was the worst. He can't act and he doesn't have that face, which is a real bummer, and we didn't have any fun at all... Needless to say, I struggled through the whole process, but I came out stronger for it and now here I sit, with a restraining order against him in the other room."

He Knows She's Something Special

MTV News caught Gosling gushing about his costar Stone in 2011 at a premiere of Crazy, Stupid, Love, when he rained praise down on her. "She’s everything, all the time. There’s no one like her. As soon as she signed on for this movie, I knew it was going to be good," he said. Awwwwww.

Gosling and Stone's chemistry is just another reason to get excited to La La Land. Any opportunity to see these two together is well worth it.
