Even defunct adult relationships forge lasting connections, for better and for worse. And, on Sunday's new episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Khloé Kardashian does her best to prove to her family that she's perfectly fine with continuing some kind of supportive friendship with her ex-husband Lamar Odom. Though their marriage ended years ago, Lamar and Khloé have lately been in contact. With the recent death of Lamar's childhood best friend and best man at his wedding Jamie Sangouthai weighing on him, Khloé's ex reaches out to her for comfort, and she's certainly not going to leave him hanging.
Their renewed pattern of communication has Kim and Kourtney concerned earlier in the episode. What worries Kim the most is the tone of the conversation that she overhears, at least on her sister's end. Khloé isn't just talking with Lamar, she's supposedly flirting with him, and Kim doesn't mince words about her gut reaction to the situation. "It makes me sick to my stomach," she says in a confessional. "She always feels the same way," Kourtney chimes in when they discuss it. "Did she end it too quickly?"
The sisters' judgement comes from a caring place, though. Kim makes it clear that she understands how it can be pleasant and familiar for Khloé to be back in contact with someone who knows her so well, but wonders if her sister has the ability to be objective about what's healthy for her, in this instance. "Is it smart?" Kim wonders, and who hasn't asked themselves that question about forging a tentative friendship with someone who broke their heart?
Meanwhile, Las Vegas is the place to luxuriate in bad decisions, but Khloé decides to leave those to the other revelers on a whirlwind trip to Sin City with her friends Dorian and DASH Dolls stars Malika and Khadijah Haqq There, Khloé has a close call with Lamar at 1 Oak, when she hears that he's physically in the hotel and on his way to the club. Instead of sticking around to share bottle service, Khloé and company book it back to their hotel room for some pajama wrestling, clearly the safer bet. Their relationship is changed, and that's a good thing.
Still, Khloé tells her mother and Kim that she'll "love [him] forever," and stresses that they basically need to deal with it. "It's not for us to judge her heart," Kris says, and Kim finally seems to be coming around to letting Khloé define their new relationship for herself. Of course, no one in her family faults her for being there for Lamar when he calls in the aftermath of his longtime best friend's death. "I think I'm going to just put all my feelings inside and really be there for her," Kim says, because even the person providing the comfort needs to feel supported to really do that properly.
Khloé is showing a lot of compassion to her ex-husband, and it's actually inspiring to see.
