7 Weird But Cool Things When You Get Laid A Lot

Let's be honest: orgasms are a good enough reason to have sex. I mean, for most of us sex is so much fun and is just enough tied up in its own little bubble. I'm sure you don't need to be convinced about why you should have more sex. But the thing is, sex isn't just amazing in the moment. The health benefits of sex are numerous, but there are quite a few that you might not expect. I mean, orgasms and post-sex glow are both great, right? But what are they doing to you? There are actually some very concrete benefits to having an active sex life that go far beyond the sex itself. Getting laid regularly is one of the most fun things you can do that also helps your body. Plus, it counts as cardio and is like 900 percent more fun than a spin class (I don't care how pumped-up your jams are, spin class, I'm still red faced and dripping sweat in a room full of strangers I'm not having sex with and I hate you).

So here are some weird but cool things that happen to your body and mind when you're getting laid regularly, because I can never come up with enough reasons to have sex:

1. You Cure Kidney Stones

What? For some reason men who have sex three-four times a week are more likely to "spontaneously pass a kidney stone" than those who aren't. Super weird, but considering how painful kidney stones are supposed to be, it's an awesome side effect.

2. It Can Boost Your Body Confidence

Body confidence issues can be really prohibitive when it comes to enjoying sex and having it regularly. I get it. But if you can get over that hump, I personally find that I have a little more bounce in my step and swagger when I'm having regular sex. It's not like it cures your issues, but it certainly distracts, and I feel more body confident and less time obsessing over the mirror.

3. You Take Fewer Sick Days

Seriously— you get sick less. Sex boosts your immune system and Dr. Yvonne K. Fulbright says that this leads to taking fewer sick days off work. I say if you should take the days anyway and use them for having more sex, leading to some amazing sex-health-not working cycle.

4. You Sleep More

Dr. Cindy M. Meston director of Sexual Psychophysiology Laboratory at UT Austin explains that orgasms release prolactin and "prolactin levels are naturally higher when we sleep, which suggests a strong relationship between the two". Plus, orgasms and sex normally help clear your mind, making sleeping easier for those of us who stay up worrying about the party in eighth grade where you had your skirt tucked into your tights.

5. You Have Less Pain

When you have sex on the reg you're pretty much a super hero. Meston explain that "the endorphins that are released during an orgasm closely resemble morphine, and they effectively relieve pain". So if you have sex every six minutes you can basically walk through fire, right?

6. You Have Easier Periods

As much as I love orgasms, this may be the holy grail of sex side effects. For those of you who are like me and have period that feel like a thousand tiny sinful fires dancing on your ovaries and making you want toast, sex may be the answer. Orgasms relieve cramps and help shed your uterine lining faster, meaning shorter period. So have sex every day on your period if you care about happiness.

7. You're Less Stressed

It's not just from the post-sex glow, people who are having sex have been regular sex have been shown to have lower rises in blood pressure during stressful tasks. So if you have a big presentation coming up, make sure you're having regular sex.
