What Your Favorite Author Says About You
Having a favorite book can be difficult with all the exciting new novel being published every day. My current favorite book changes just about every other week. But there are lot of readers that stay true to their stable favorite author, gobbling up absolutely anything by a particular writer the minute it hits bookshelves. Who this author is can say a lot about you you are.
Having an author you can always turn to is like having a best friend that will be there for you whenever you need a little guidance or a hug. His or her words not only transport you to a new world, but they offer you a safe place to experience an adventure through other characters. I know in my case, whenever I feel a lack of motivation or just need a boost in life, it always helps to go back and reread books by my favorite author. It's like having multiple guidebooks on life all written by the same person.
Is your favorite author is the current best-selling YA writer on the market? Or is it the fantasy author who writes massive series? No matter which genre is your favorite, or what kind of writing you like best, I've got you and your personality covered with these 11 different types of authors.
1. The Author Who Writes Multiple Genres
You love the author that can write realistic stories just as well as magical, historical and contemporary, adult fiction or children's books. You don't have a sole focus or a single dream in life; you have hundreds. People often comment on your ambitious, adventurous lifestyle. You love trying new things, even if it includes skydiving or eating a mysterious food at a new restaurant. You don't let anything hold you back from living the life you want.
2. The Best-Selling YA Author
Your favorite author is John Green, Rainbow Rowell, Suzanne Collins, or any of the other massive YA names dominating the pop culture conversation. You're the one who friends always come to when they need strong life advice, and it tends to focus on following your heart for that relationship, that dream job, or that family issue. You love relating to people and getting to know them as deeply as possible. When it comes to doing adult-things like paying bills and grocery shopping, you're not exceptionally talented, but that's just because you're always looking at the bigger picture in life and don't get bogged down by the day to day.
3. The Late, Classic Author
If no author can replace Jane Austen, John Steinbeck, or Charles Dickens for you, you probably have high reading standards. Making new friends is exciting for you, but you still have your best friends from childhood. You like routines and staying organized. Sometimes you wonder if you were born in the wrong era, but you also couldn't imagine living in a time where classic books like Pride and Prejudice are still loved, parodied, and talked about constantly.
4. The Sci-Fi Or Fantasy Author With A Huge Series
When you walk into a bookstore, your first instinct is to find the rows of books that all look similar with your favorite author's name boldly stamped on each one. Like the massive books you enjoy reading, you also get excited about taking on bigger projects at work and in your personal life. You're a bit of a perfectionist, but that's only because you care so much about the tiniest of details. Your life is a giant series, and as far as you're concerned, each day is a new adventure to embark on.
5. The Romance Author Who Isn't Afraid To Write Dirty
You love romance novels, but you also love an author who doesn't censor the hot and heavy scenes that makes the book that much better. Whether you're into more intimate kissing or intense BDSM in your books, at the heart of it, it's all about the love story. Being the hopeless romantic that you are, love stories are what make the would go round. More than anything, you strive to create happy relationships and always consider the feelings of your friends, family, and SO first before making a big life decision.
6. The Well-Known Literary Author
You're crazy for authors like Alice Hoffman, Junot Diaz, and Phillip Roth. You're always on the lookout for the subtle and sweet moments in life. You like knowing what's going on in the news and being a part of your community, no matter how big or small it is. Spending time with your family, going on vacations, and making sure to find time to laugh are what top your priority list.
7. The Quirky Author No One But You Has Heard Of
Every time you mention your favorite author, everyone around you gives you a blank stare. You found your favorite author by scanning the shelves on your own rather than receiving recommendations, and that's similar to how you live your life. You like going by your own terms and on your own time when it comes to establishing relationships. You might not always know what everyone is talking about when some big media scandal hits the streets, but you'd prefer it that way. Simple and off-beat are the two best words to describe you.
8. The Memoirist Whose Life Changed Yours
When you read Elizabeth Gilbert's Eat Pray Love, you dreamed of traveling to Italy, India, and Bali just to see if it would work for you. When you read Wild, you thought about embarking on a challenging journey. You're constantly looking for ways to change up your everyday routine because you don't want to repeat the same day twice. At some point in your life, you're fairly certain you'll write your own amazing memoir because your life has been an incredible journey so far.
9. The Silly Author Who Fills You With Laughter
If you love reading work by an author that always makes you giggle and snort, then you are without a doubt also a funny person. Making jokes, especially when there's high tension around you, has always come naturally to you. You're witty and able to make a pun out of just about anything. While you believe laughter is the best medicine, you're also a great friend who is always willing to listen. And when someone can find a way to make you laugh until you're out of breath, he or she automatically becomes your new best friend.
10. The Mystery Author Who Surprises You Every Time
You were that person who was having the time of your life recommending different mystery thrillers while everyone seemed to have a copy of Gone Girl in their hands. You're incredibly intuitive, so to be shocked or even surprised isn't common for you. You're a huge fan of watching shows like Sherlock or The X-Files because you're so good at solving mysteries. You're basically a modern-day Nancy Drew in your own life and you wouldn't want it any other way.
11. The Horror Author Who Never Fails To Spook You
You've probably read every book Stephen King has ever written, but you also have stacks of books from other talented horror authors as well — Mary Shelley, Shirley Jackson, Anne Rice, and others. Just because you like the horror genre doesn't make you a scary person. In fact, you're always complimented on how thoughtful you are. Halloween is definitely your favorite holiday, partly due to the massive sweet tooth you have. There's nothing that can get you going more than a pure adrenaline rush which you always find in your favorite author's writing.
