America's equivalent to the royal family, the Kardashians released their annual Christmas card, but Khloe Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, Kim Kardashian West, and the rest of the usual suspects are nowhere in sight. After a year when the Kardashian adults were in the public eye even more than usual, they stepped back and let the younger generation take center stage in the card (minus Kim and Kanye West's new baby Saint). This was an excellent and classy move on the part of the Kardashian clan. While they could have put the focus squarely on themselves, they let the next generation shine and captured the true holiday spirit in the process.
Fans of the Kardashians look forward to seeing the family's new Christmas card every year. Since Keeping Up with the Kardashians became a monster hit, the family has turned their Christmas cards into a huge production. In previous years, they went with elaborate gala looks that included the entire Kardashian/Jenner extended family. In 2014, the family couldn't find time to produce an extravagant card and so they opted to release nothing at all. Given how busy their lives have been in 2015, they could have opted for the same choice, but instead they got together the grandkids — Kim and Kanye West's daughter North, and Kourtney and Scott Disick's kids Mason, Penelope, and Reign — in a simple card that could only be cuter if little Saint had been in the photo.
So, why did the family decide to release a Christmas card featuring only their youngest family members? According to E! Online, it was likely a matter of timing again. A source told E!, "This year, especially the last couple months, was so hectic that it was hard to arrange a full family shoot. Showing the kids alone seemed like the perfect thing to do."
It seems that adage about necessity being the mother of invention is totally true, at least when it comes to the Kardashians' Christmas card. In a year when Caitlyn Jenner was dubbed Barbara Walters most fascinating person of the year, Kim welcomed her son in the world, Kanye announced a potential 2020 presidential bid, and Khloe released a new book while also staying by Lamar Odom's side during his recovery, 2015 was full of dizzying highs, new successes, and scares for the family.
The one constant? The kids. Not only did the Kardashian children likely keep the family grounded throughout the year, they are the ones Christmas is truly about. By paring back on the extravagance and letting their stylish little scene-stealers be the face of the family for once, they reminded their fans that while the Kardashians are a famous and fascinating family, during the holidays it is still the little ones who reign supreme.
