With over 20 years of experience in the film industry, she's no stranger to award shows. Nevertheless, congratulations are in order for Cate Blanchett and her Best Actress Oscar nomination for Carol . This come as no surprise, since Blanchett has proved she's beyond talented with her work in films like The Aviator and Blue Jasmine, the latter for which she won this same award in 2014. Considering her portrayal as a gay woman in Carol has gotten rave reviews, there's a good chance the experienced Australian actor may earn the honor once again. But until the Academy Awards air on Sunday, Feb. 28, there's really only one other question: what will Blanchett wear to the 2016 Oscars?
Considering the Oscars are arguably the most prestigious awards show for the film industry in the United States, there is lot's of anticipation about what movie stars will be wearing to the event. And for an actor like Blanchett, who continues to blow fans away with her beautiful, unique style that leaves everyone in her wake speechless, the curiosity is through the roof. We know the Oscars are formal, we know the red carpet is just as much a runway as a carpet, and we know that Blanchett will dazzle no matter what. But when it comes to what she'll be wearing, all signs point to something artistic, elegant, and undeniably pretty.
Her past awards show appearances serve as evidence that she will once again slay the style game. Even though Blanchett didn't win Best Actress In A Motion Picture Drama for Carol at the Golden Globes this year, I thought her ensemble was flawless. This fringed, embroidered, pastel Givenchy number is ah-mazing. Do you know anyone else in Hollywood that could pull a number like this off? Nope, didn't think so. Hopefully, that's an indication that her Oscar dress will be just as fantastic.
Or maybe she'll err on the side of something similar to her last Oscars ensemble, a black column dress with bright jewelry. The Maison Margiela number was quite simple, but provided a perfect canvas for her bright blue Tiffany & Co. jewels. Perhaps the focus of her Oscar 2016 look will be on jewelry?
Perhaps her dress will steal the show, like at the 2014 Oscars, when she rocked an Armani gown paired with Chopard diamonds, which cost $18.1 million (!!!). It was a perfect choice to accept her Best Actress award for Blue Jasmine in. If you haven't seen the film already, Blanchett plays a newly broke socialite who wears Hermes scarves and Louboutin heels. Fitting, no?
More recently though, Blanchett wore a black, embroidered, sheer gown to the Museum Of Modern Art Film Benefit. Easily one of my favorite CB looks to date, the hi-low hem of the dress is very chic, as are the slight hints of skin through the sheer fabric above the chest and on the sleeves. Perhaps a similarly vampy yet chic look is in store for the Oscars?
She occasionally opts for something more feminine and chic, like this white halter gown with metallic detailing around the shoulders for the BFI London Film Festival Awards last year. Blanchett's choices are mostly girly with a bit of edge, so we can only expect that for her Oscar look as well.
She looks just as beautiful in a tailored jumpsuit, a prime example being the satin and velvet jumpsuit she wore to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences' 7th Annual Governors Awards. If Blanchett did deviate from a gown for the upcoming Academy Awards, I think she'd still look absolutely stunning.
Only time will tell what Blanchett will wear to the Oscars. But until then, here are my best guesses to what she may actually rock on that fancy, formal red carpet.
1. A Black Strapless Gown
Blanchett would look stunning in a black strapless gown like this one from Givenchy's spring/summer 2016 runway.
Maybe something with embroidery and fringe and sheer fabric, like this number from the Valentino SS 2016 collection. Sounds like a good combination for Blanchett, no?
3. Gray Chiffon
Like we established earlier, Blanchett does love a girly silhouette. This gown from the SS 16 Marchesa runway would be a perfect choice for the Oscars.
4. Black & Brown
This gorgeous embroidered dress from the latest Balmain collection could also be an option. Blanchett would look beyond in this.
I could easily see Blanchett slaying in this metallic, show-stopping Marc Jacobs S/S 2016 gown.
6. Pink With Black Lace
This Oscar De La Renta dress is basically Blanchett in a nutshell.
7. Black & Sheer
Blanchett could easily rock this Tom Ford gown.
My guess is as good as any. That being said, there's no doubt that Blanchett will look drop dead gorgeous!
