Emily May Know More Than She Says On 'PLL'

by Kelly Schremph

Though it may not have come as a big surprise, Tuesday night's episode of Pretty Little Liars finally revealed what Emily's treatments were for: she's donating her eggs for money. And while the explanation may not have packed the kind of shocking punch we're used to receiving on this show (was all the hype really necessary?), that doesn't mean it didn't help to notify us of a very important clue. When Emily joined her mom out on their porch steps she was handed a glass of wine, but ended up dumping it into the bushes when Pam wasn't looking. After all, you're supposed to refrain from consuming alcohol during the donor process, according to the New York State Department of Health. But if that's the case, that might mean Emily was sober on the night of Charlotte's death.

Tumblr user hibiskusrot was quick to connect the dots on this PLL theory and believes that it could indicate that our beloved Emily Fields isn't as innocent as she seems. Does this mean that she was the one to kill Charlotte? Possibly. It's not as if she doesn't have sound reasons for wanting A dead, given everything they were put through. She even lost Paige because of it, and now with her father dead, her mind may have led her to a very dark place. Maybe that's why Sara Harvey's continued presence in Rosewood is bothering Emily so much. She's paranoid that her stalker may know what she did that night. The hosts of Bustle's Pretty Little Liars podcast, Taking This One To The Grave, think hibiskusrot may be on to something, and discussed Emily's possible involvement in the episode below.

All this time, we've been thinking that Sara's continued presence has simply served as an unpleasant reminder for Emily of what happened to her ex's hands on that fateful night. But this could go way beyond any residual guilt. Emily even asked Aria if she remembered seeing Sara in the lobby when she came back from meeting Ezra — because if Sara saw Aria, then perhaps she saw Emily as well.

And hey, even if Emily didn't kill Charlotte, that doesn't mean she didn't play a significant role in how it all shook out. Just think of the secret rendezvous and misunderstandings that happened on the night Bethany was killed and Ali was attacked. It's impossible to know for sure what Emily was up to, but if she wasn't drinking that night, then she's our best bet at piecing all of the details together.
