Schwartz & Katie Channel 'Sandlot' On 'Pump Rules'

by Kristie Rohwedder

Just when I thought I couldn't be more devoted to the reality series about the Sexy Unique SURvers at the Sexy Unique Restaurant, two of the cast members go and recreate a scene from The Sandlot (aka one my favorite movies of all time) for their engagement photos, and now I'm 99.9% sure that I'd be willing to jump into the The Beast's backyard for this show. (i.e., This show is my everything.) On Monday night’s episode of Vanderpump Rules , newly affianced couple Tom Schwartz and Katie dressed up like Sandlotcharacters Squints and Wendy Peffercorn, headed to the beach, and posed for their engagement pictures.

Look, I don't always love cutesy couple photo themes (what can I say? I'm for-ev-er a Ham Porter at heart), but I’d be a regular L7 weenie if I said this The Sandlot schtick wasn’t my jam. I love, love, love The Sandlot, and I really love anytime the greatest show in television history pays homage to The Sandlot.

“Wait,” you begin. “What do you mean by ‘anytime?’ Do you mean to suggest that this was not the first time Pump Rules referenced The Sandlot?”

Why, yes! As a matter of fact, I do mean to suggest that. You see, when I watched the Pump Rules midseason trailer just over a month ago, a thought hit me: Tom “Ever-Ever-Ever” Sandoval sort of sounds like Squints. No, it wasn’t an outright reference to the movie, and yeah, it might've been a bit of a stretch, but that was my actual reaction to that scene. And that was that.

...OR SO I THOUGHT. When Monday’s Pump Rules gave The Sandlot a shoutout, I was hit by a tidal wave of joy. How did I know? I thought. Was it nothing more than a coincidence? Or do the show and I have a cosmic connection?

You're killin' me, Pump Rules.
