Why Justin Bieber & Britney Spears Stripped Down

by Shea Simmons

Mario Testino's incredible "Towel Series" has featured a long list of notable stars. From It girls like Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner to classic beauties like Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford, the series usually creates a major moment for celebrities. Now, Justin Bieber and Britney Spears have joined Testino's "Towel Series" family, and the images are completely gorgeous. The photos are a part of a larger collection of celebrities clad in terry cloth for V Magazine's 100th issue, and each image is equally as beautiful as the next. With major stars, a brilliant photographer, and an engaging concept, how could it not be?

This isn't Britney Spears's only headline this week, though, and not her only appearance with V. On Tuesday, Spears' cover of the 100th issue of V Magazine debuted, and it was sexy as hell and totally gorgeous, much like her towel series image. Spears' cover gave off perfect 00's vibes, but it's clear now that it was just a precursor to the sexy-meets-demure "Towel Series" image. Spears can be seen in her singular photo looking coyly over her shoulder, damp hair wrapped up in a towel. The black and white photo is a classic example of the sexy yet understated images that Testino is known for in this specific project. While some of his photographs are notably more provocative — Amanda Seyfried's image, anyone — most of the images of women feature strategically placed towels and very little skin other than shoulders, legs, and arms.

Justin Bieber appears alongside Spears in the series with an image that could rival even his GQ cover or Calvin Klein ad campaign. Bieber's Calvin Klein campaign had many people calling foul. With the appearance of a noticeable bulge, many claimed that the image was photoshopped — though according to Justin, it wasn't. His towel series image, however, has yet to undergo such criticism, and to be honest, it's got me feeling some type of way. Bieber fits in perfectly among stunning male "Towel Series" counterparts such as Alex Pettyfer and model Aurelien Muller.

Spears and Bieber are just two of the stars appearing in a printed version of the social media phenomenon. According to V Magazine , Testino began the series on his Instagram account making these published versions all the more interesting despite some of the images already being accessible online prior to publication. While the series is vast in its scope of stars, notables appearing in V Magazine include Kiera Knightley and even Derek Zoolander.

The "Towel Series" appearance in the magazine hopefully marks a new wave of celebrities to come for Testino and his social media phenomenon. With most of Hollywood's It celebrities already making appearances, I can't wait to see who's next on Testino's list. As for now, I'll just be in awe of how gorgeous Britney looks.
