This 'untitled unmastered.' Fact Is Super Exciting

by Emily Lackey

If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably spent every single second since Kendrick Lamar released his album untitled unmastered. listening to the songs on repeat, playing them over and over again until the lyrics are burned deeply in your brain. But given the nature of the album release — Lamar released the album without any fanfare, announcing it officially the same day he teased it might come out on Twitter — there might be a few things that you don’t know about Lamar’s new music. In fact, there is one thing you probably didn’t know about Untitled Unmastered that might get you very, very excited for what Kendrick Lamar might have in store next.

It’s a little thing. A side note, really, that Lamar mentioned in an interview during award season. Remember that his incredible 2016 Grammy performance? Before performing an untitled track in front of an audience of millions, Lamar spoke exclusively with Grammy.com about the song he sang that night and the fact that it wasn’t on his Grammy-nominated album To Pimp a Butterfly. "I got a chamber of material from the album that I was in love [with] where sample clearances or something as simple as a deadline kept it off the album," Lamar said. Later in that same interview, he mentions having close to “10 songs that [he is] in love with… that didn’t make the cut.”

Um, excuse me? Ten songs you say? Isn’t that interesting, because untitled unmastered. only has eight songs on it. So are you thinking what I’m thinking? Kendrick Lamar could have even more music locked away in that vault of his that he may or may not spring on us at any minute. I don’t know for sure, but the anticipation of that will keep me excited until he does. Considering that the CEO of Top Dawg Entertainment, Anthony Tiffith, gave a shout out to Lebron James for inspiring Lamar to release untitled unmastered. after his Grammy performance, I’m going to call on James one more time. Please get Lamar to release those other tracks he’s holding on to. Because what he gave us on untitled unmastered. is so good that I'm already longing for untitled unmastered. (deluxe edition).
