Will This Marvel Duo Be A Couple In 'Civil War'?

by Courtney Lindley

Love is in the Marvel air for at least two characters in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War film. A couple whose known for their long-standing romance in the comic books — Vision and Scarlet Witch — might be together in the movies. For fans of this pairing, that's reason enough to be on board with Captain America's sequel — regardless of whose side you are on (Captain America's vs. Iron Man's). Elizabeth Olsen — the actress who plays Scarlet Witch — told Entertainment Tonight that a relationship between her character and Vision (played by Paul Bettany) is "totally happening."

No, you do not need to get your vision checked. You read that right. The actress continued, "You learn a little bit more about what connects [Scarlet and Vision] in this film. And I think there's some really sweet moments between Paul and I, and it's more about how they relate to one another and their similarities just based on their superpowers."

Fans of Vision and Scarlet Witch's relationship can now breathe easy, knowing that something romantic is brewing. After Age of Ultron, it seemed like these two might not find their way into each other's arms in any of the film adaptations — despite their long standing romantic history in the original comic books.

As I believe many a Marvel fan will agree, of course Vision and Scarlet Witch should be together in MCU. I mean, how could they not be?

Though Vision is an android (and one bent on destroying The Avengers nonetheless), and Scarlet Witch is a super-powered human, the two are a near perfect MCU match. As Olsen points out, they relate to each other on a fundamental level. Olsen told Hitfix in March, "There’s something unique in the fact that her powers come from the same thing [Mind Gem] that powers [Vision]. That is how we’ve made them have that kind of [bond]. Giving them that specifically in common, as opposed to it being something else that the comics kind of created, which has been pure romance. But they do have something uniquely special because of that."

Throughout the comic book series, Vision and Scarlet Witch shared a deep respect and love for one another. A love that eventually led to a marriage and kids (the latter through magical means). Though the MCU doesn't always follow the comic books, it's fair to say that this type of connection makes sense in the movies too.

Interestingly enough, in Captain America: Civil War Scarlet Witch and Vision will be on opposing sides. How this will interfere with their impending romance we don't know at this point, but it's fair to say it will definitely cause some drama. And hopefully some serious sparks.
