Prince's 'New Girl' Episode Is Coming Back To TV

by Emily Lackey

Hold on for a few days long, everyone. Because, after it was tragically confirmed on Thursday that the music legend Prince was found dead at the age of 57, an outpouring of love for the rock star has been flowing freely from a number of sources. But, the love for the "Purple Rain" singer extends beyond his incredible fan base. Companies and corporations in the entertainment industry have been going out all out to pay homage to the pop icon. For instance, on Friday, AMC theaters announced that they would be airing Purple Rain at theaters around the country, while Fox announced that it would be re-airing Prince’s New Girl episode on Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. This means that, in addition to his incredible music that will live on forever, there are thankfully also a number of other ways to see the star in all his glory.

The episode, which originally aired during Season 3 of New Girl and after the Super Bowl in 2014, starred Prince as himself and was simply titled "Prince." When Nick (Jake Johnson) and Jess (Zooey Deschanel) attended a party, Prince was his usual cool self, tolerating them both as they were totally starstruck and then giving Jess ample advice on her love life. The part was a small one, but even a few minutes of Prince being himself are better than none.

The producers behind New Girl released a statement alongside the news that they would be re-airing the episode in which the late musician starred:

We are all so deeply saddened to hear about the passing of this hero of ours — and so grateful to have had the opportunity to meet him and to have him on our show. It’s something we will remember forever. Our thoughts go out to his family. We are among the millions of people who will truly miss the brilliant Artist.

I think the entire world can agree with that sentiment. Prince was a man whose artistry and music will truly be missed.
