All The Dirty Jokes In 'Shrek' You Didn't Get As A Kid

In 2001 Shrek was released as a new kind of animated tale. And I don't mean computer-generated, although the film was part of that movement in the early 2000s. I mean that the supposed kids movie Shrek had dirty jokes that may have gone over your head when you first saw it. The 2001 movie is smart, hilarious, and puts a modern twist on all those wholesome fairytale cartoons I watched as a kid, like Cinderella, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty.

Shrek follows the title character, a so-called "ugly" ogre who is pushed into an adventure made up of an Eddie Murphy-voiced Donkey, the subversion of all the fairy tales you once loved, and, eventually, finding love with Princess Fiona in a new kind of happily ever after. Like many animated tales, Shrek's jokes can be appreciated on many levels — and you can laugh/cringe at them even more once you're older and realize the real meaning behind some of them. Seriously, they got away with a lot of stuff that you be wondering, "How on earth did they sneak that joke into a movie for kids?"

Check out the dirty jokes from Shrek that may have gone over your head upon first viewing.

1. Lord Farquaad's Name

Take out the R and say his name. It sounds suspiciously like the word "F*ckwad," doesn't it?

2. Lord Farquaad's Castle

OK, put the R back in and check out the clip above, in which Shrek and Donkey happen upon Lord Farquaad's large, phallic castle and wonder if he's compensating for, ahem, something down below.

3. "He Likes To Get... Paid"

When (French) Robin Hood finds Princess Fiona, he sings this musical number in which it sounds like his chorus is headed toward saying he likes to get "laid," until he interrupts, of course.

4. "Although she lives with seven other men, she’s not easy"

In The Dating Game/The Bachelorette segment of the movie, this is the description of Snow White. I wonder if this ever crossed the dwarves' minds?

5. Lord Farquaad's "Me Time"

You saw that right. This scene has Lord Farquaad preparing to masturbate. See it for yourself in the clip above (or hide thine eyes and scroll past this right now).

6. "Wipe Your... Face"

In the "Welcome to Duloc" song, the little toys bend over when they're about to say face, so they really may mean to say "butt." A literal dirty joke.

7. Donkey's Erotic Dream

Donkey has sex dreams, too. Who knew?

8. "That's my personal tail, you're going to tear it off!"

While Donkey and future wife Dragon are, um, "flirting," Dragon wraps herself around Donkey and feels around him, I think. I'm not sure what's going on, but Donkey expresses his need to take things slower in the clip above.

9. "What a load of..."

The movie opens with Shrek reading a fairytale and then using a page from the book to literally wipe his butt. Quite a statement as the subversive anti-fairytale.
