As much as I love summer, switching from shaving maybe once a week to almost every other day can be a pain. Especially because when I start shaving more frequently, my skin becomes a little more sensitive, and I find I need an aftershave to prevent razor burn and ingrown hairs. Unfortunately, a basic moisturizer just doesn't cut it for me when I shave on a regular basis. But as much as the lazy girl in me resists adding an extra step to my routine, I have to admit, a good aftershave is a must. And regardless if you prefer finding the best one on the market or whipping up your own home remedy, there are plenty of options for soothing your skin.
Granted, more often than not, aftershaves are marketed towards men. But don't let the gray and black packaging bum you out. The product inside will work just as well on you. And don't worry, aftershaves don't always have to be a pungent splash either. They can actually be much more convenient and in a cooling, gel or spray form for easier application. Trust me: This is one product you'll be happy you added to your hair-removal routine. Here are all of the aftershaves, whether pre-made or DIY that will help keep your legs smooth and free from bumps, burn, and ingrown hairs.

The spray-form of this tea-tree and seed-oil aftershave (that I swear by) makes it so easy to apply and layer under a conditioning moisturizer.

A great multi-tasker, you can use this lotion both to soothe your legs and prime your face for makeup.
If you prefer a thicker consistency, this post-shave cream features shea butter to help resist razor burn while seriously nourishing skin.
Witch hazel is an astringent that helps clean wounds, stop itching, and seal in moisture which makes it a perfect base for a DIY aftershave. Try mixing equal parts water and witch hazel in a spray bottle for easy application. Also try adding small amounts of vegetable glycerin, jojoba or coconut oil, and essential oils to incorporate some moisture and appealing smells into your aftershave.
The antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of apple cider vinegar make it a great ingredient to use in skin treatments. Mix equal parts apple cider vinegar, water, and witch hazel; and add the essential oils of your choice. Keep your post-shave routine simple and natural by following this aftershave with coconut oil to hydrate your skin.
8. Water DIY
One of the simplest aftershaves you can make is tea. Green, chamomile, and black tea are great options for skin that needs to be soothed thanks to their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Simply brew some tea and then wait for it to cool before dipping a cotton round or washcloth in it and gently dabbing over your skin. Follow with your favorite moisturizer for calm and hydrated skin.
Whether directly from a plant or prepackaged, aloe can help soothe and moisturize irritated skin. For a homemade, gel aftershave, try mixing equal parts aloe vera gel and witch hazel. Add one tablespoon of glycerin and the essential oils of your choosing for a boost of moisture and fragrance.
You'll never have to suffer through razor burn again.
