The Lesson Chrissy Teigen Can't Wait To Teach Luna

by Jamie Primeau

Back in April, Chrissy Teigen gave birth to her and John Legend's daughter Luna. Although the newborn is obviously too young to comprehend the concept right now, she's being raised by some pretty cool parents. And no, I'm not just saying that because Legend is an award-winning musician or Teigen is a Sport Illustrated Swimsuit model with a knack for cooking delicious food. (But of course, those are great traits.) Instead, a recent quote shows why these two have the whole parenting thing down. During a panel event for Lip-Sync Battle, Teigen told the crowd the biggest lesson she's excited to teach her daughter and it's one worth repeating. According to E! News, she said,

An important thing I'll try and teach [Luna] is...no matter what, you will find that job, you will find that point in life where people are gonna want you to be exactly the way you are and nothing else... I think I'm excited to teach her to just be yourself and eventually it's going to pay off.

That's seemingly simple advice, yet so important. It's also surprising how often the idea gets overlooked. I know plenty of people whose parents put pressure on them to fit a certain standard — whether going to law school, med school, or having to get a certain GPA. It adds unnecessary stress on top of trying to figure out what they want to do, not what society tells them they should be doing. So I think it's awesome Teigen is preaching the opposite — just be yourself and the rest will fall into place.

As it turns out, this is a lesson that Teigen had to learn firsthand. According to E!, she also said,

I think that was a big thing for me to learn because in the modeling world, you go about your days pretending to be so sexy and poised and together and it was interesting for me to learn that as you go on and meet...different groups of people...and to be with these people that you love, that they appreciate you for having this personality which may be quirky or weird or odd to you.

If I had to guess, part of why Teigen has become so popular is because she speaks her mind and isn't afraid to be herself. Nowadays, she's almost better known for her personality than her modeling career (not to diminish those accomplishments, though). Whether that means sharing her obsession with food or posting pictures of her stretch marks, her authenticity is what makes her stand out. I mean, have you seen her Twitter account? She's hilariously honest. Another example of embracing who she is would be all those memes from award shows, where she's cringing or crying. She doesn't hide her emotions — and why should she have to?

All in all, Luna is one lucky little girl. Not only will she grow up learning how to make some amazing food and getting to hear Legend's lullabies, but she'll be surrounded by supportive parents, who just want her to be herself and be happy. That's the best type of parenting possible.
