Rihanna Would Be A Great Addition To 'Ocean's 8'

by Courtney Lindley

Good news for people who like news about Rihanna. (That's everybody, right?) According to an exclusive Deadline report, the Anti singer might become part of the female-driven Ocean's 11 spinoff, Ocean's 8. If it happens, Rihanna will act alongside Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling, and rapper/actress Awkwafina. Is that alleged cast lineup incredible or is it incredible? You are correct. It's both. Amongst this sea of wonderful talent, one has to wonder: Obviously she's an accomplished musician, but can Rihanna act? This actually won't be Rihanna's first movie gig, so the answer is, yeah, she can. (The better question is: What can't Rihanna do?)

In fact, the singer has more acting experience than you might think. She made her big screen debut about four years ago with Battleship, but, if you really think about it, she's been "acting" in her music videos since the start of her career. As time has progressed, her videos have become edgier as well as more cinematic. Take last year's "B*tch Better Have My Money" video for instance, where Rihanna played out a twisted and violent revenge fantasy with her accountant who (yes) owed her money. She was bone-chillingly convincing as the wronged, sadistic version of herself. Either that's how she really is in real life (hope not) or your girl can act. You be the judge. And ,if you're judging, take the following five films she's done into consideration, too.

1. Battleship (2012)

Rihanna played Petty Officer Cora "Weps" Raikes in the 2012 film Battleship. She didn't ever say more than a couple lines at a time, but she did offer some comic relief to the film and held her own amongst bigger stars like Alexander Skarsgård, Taylor Kitsch, and Liam Neeson.

2. This Is The End (2013)

Rihanna made a cameo as herself in the hilarious/strange post apocalyptic comedy, where she slaps Michael Cera. Yes, really.

3. Annie (2014)

In the 2014 Annie reboot, Jamie Foxx and Quvenzhané Wallis' Annie see a movie within their own movie. It's called "MoonQuake Lake," and it stars Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, and Rihanna. The plot details are pretty unclear, but it does look like Rihanna played some sort of evil sea monster.

4. Home (2015)

In the animated film, Rihanna lent her voice to Tip, a young girl who becomes best friends with the alien and protagonist of the film, Oh.

5. Valerian and The City Of Planets (2017)

This film has yet to be released, and we actually don't know what kind of role Rihanna's been assigned, but we do know it's a high profile gig and something to do with aliens — aka it'll be good.

Based on this — and the fact that she's the best (sue me!) — I'm not worried about Rihanna's acting capabilities. You shouldn't be either.
