What To Know About Athletes' Sex Habits

by Emma McGowan

Olympic athletes don’t just sleep in the Olympic Village — there’s a lot of sex going on. I mean, you throw athletes in their 20s and 30s together in a dorm-like environment, throw in a dose of adrenaline from competing and also the feeling that they can finally relax once they’re done competing, and you can be sure they’re getting it on. In fact, it’s so well-known that the Olympic Village is a one big sex fest that this year there are 450,000 condoms provided for the athletes. That’s 42 condoms per athlete!

But partnered sex isn’t the only kind of sex out there. Another name for masturbation is “solo sex,” after all, and I’m willing to bet that those Olympians are doing plenty of self-loving in addition to all of the sex they’re having. The luxury sex toy brand LELO actually surveyed 800 athletes to see if they could get a sense of the sexual habits of the Olympians this year and they found out that, yep, they’re definitely masturbating — an average of 19 times per month, in fact.

So who’s masturbating the most? According to LELO’s survey, athletes in these eight sports are having the most average solo sessions per month.

1. Rugby: 37 Average Solo Sessions Per Month

Zero percent surprised. The amount of testosterone in one rugby player probably equals that of like, 10 average humans and testosterone is the human hormone that makes us horny. Obviously these people need some release!

2. Golf: 31 Average Solo Sessions Per Month

Excellent wrist strength and control. Maybe masturbation counts as a workout?

3. Soccer: 30 Average Solo Sessions Per Month

My image of soccer players is largely informed by my time living in South America, where they have a bit of reputation as… Lotharios, who definitely have high sex drives. So yes, this totally makes sense to me. (Also, yes, that GIF is of a real soccer player. His name is Oscar Emboaba. Google him and thank me later.)

4. Field Hockey: 26 Average Solo Sessions Per Month

I know next to nothing about field hockey but I’m going to go with wrist strength and control again on this one because those sticks don’t whack those balls on their own!

5. Tennis and Cycling: 24 Average Solo Sessions Per Month

Wrist control? Check. Stamina? Less important for solo sex, but yes? Do you!
