Kimye Better Be In The VMAs Audience

by Jamie Primeau

Love him or hate him, Kanye West is a major part of MTV's Video Music Awards — or at least he has been in years past. Remember that whole "I'ma let you finish" incident that sparked his feud with Taylor Swift in 2009? Or how about 2015's onstage declaration that he would be running for president in 2020? He took home the Video Vanguard Award that year as well. Because he's been so involved in the show over the years, you may be wondering: Are West and Kim Kardashian attending the 2016 VMAs? By this point, it would be more shocking if they didn't show up. Update: West and Kardashian are confirmed for the VMAs, with Kardashian presenting an award, according to MTV.

Earlier: Besides the fact that these two had a major spotlight at last year's VMAs, there's another likely reason they'll be in attendance. West is nominated for two awards this year, including Video of the Year. I can't be the only one who's nervous he'll burst on stage if he doesn't win and give a speech about why "Famous" is one of the best videos of all time. Plus, something tells me that producers would want him there — for that very reason. He'd certainly up ratings if he got up to any of his antics. And if "Famous" does win, he'd probably take the opportunity to call out Swift. To be honest, I'm equally nervous about that possibility.

On the other hand, perhaps this year's award show is Ye's chance to prove everybody wrong and show he's actually matured. That would be one way to flip the script and stop making people second-guess his sincerity. Maybe he'll just go, sit in the audience quietly, win an award, and not even take a dig at Swift in the process. I'd definitely applaud him for that.

And in case you needed another clue as to whether the couple will attend, Kardashian has been encouraging her Twitter followers to vote for West. That means she's at least somewhat invested in the award show. Plus, the nomination is for a video she (or at least a wax figure in her likeness) appears in, so that's all the more reason for her to be there.

Honestly, I doubt these two would miss it. If so, there would have to be a crazy-good reason why. Otherwise, I think we can all expect Kimye to be sitting front and center. They're like the Prom King and Prom Queen of the VMAs.
