I watch a lot of porn. I really like porn. And yet I have never had the urge to watch porn at work. Have I been sexually frustrated? Absolutely. Sent sexts? Yup. But it would have never even occurred to me to log onto PornHub in the middle of my office. And that's not just because my old office was open plan. But it turns out, people watch porn at work. Not the majority of people, sure, but still way more than I would have expected.
A recent study published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior looked at 821 gay, straight, and bi men’s porn preferences and it turns out, some of them like the office to log on. In fact, 16.1 percent reported watching sexually explicit material at work either on a tablet or smartphone and 5.4 percent watched porn at work on a goddamned computer. I really, really hope that they have private offices.
Frankly, I would be fascinated to see women surveyed on the same subject. Because even though I know women who have masturbated at work, I don't know a single one who's watched porn. Maybe that's just my friends though. I guess I could be putting my coffee break to better use. And that's not all they learned— turns out there are some porn habits out there that will really surprise you. It's worth checking out the whole eye-opening study, but here were the highlights about where we watch porn:
1. Straight Guys Like Their Work Porn
So when it comes to watching porn at work the research found that "heterosexual men were more likely than gay men to report viewing [sexually explicit material] at work on a computer". I'm not sure why they'd have more of a taste for it, but they're more into logging on while on the clock.
2. Sex Party Porn Watching Is A Thing
I mean, you'd think that at a sex party there would be enough going on to keep you occupied. I'm all for watching porn during sex, but if you're at a party with multiple people, surely you already feel like you're in a porn, right? Apparently not. 12.4 percent of users reported watching sexually explicit material at a sex party. So porn really is everywhere.
3. And Watching In A Bar Or Club Isn't That Unusual
According to the research "viewing was also reported: in a bar, club, or at an adult video store" by 17.9 percent of respondents — or nearly one in five. That may explain why everyone is on their phones at bars these days, but it doesn't mean that it's something I wanted explained. That was something I was happy living without knowing.
But this is the world, people. And the world is filled with porn.
