The New 'GG' Photos Are Missing Something Big
The age of Gilmore is almost upon us, and Netflix has been dropping more and more images from the upcoming revival Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life . One thing Luke and Lorelai 'shippers might notice about this latest crop of images is that Lorelai isn't wearing an engagement ring in any of them. Fans are pretty certain that there will a wedding during the revival based on a fan’s illicit Warner Brothers' prop room photo. Even more fans are convinced that this wedding will be Lorelai and Luke, but, to quote the words of the noted philosopher Beyoncé, "if you liked it then you shoulda put a ring on it." Sadly, it doesn't look like that part of the deal has been done. So what does this all mean for everyone's favorite couple?
From previous pictures released, it definitely seems like Luke and Lorelai are still kicking it in the romantic sense. They're spotted enjoying a movie together at the Black-White-Read Bookstore/Theatre, being shocked at a Stars Hollow town meeting, and chatting at Luke's Diner (probably about the Lorelai's caffeine intake). And yet none of these new pictures feature Lorelai with a ring of any sort. What does it all mean, if anything? Don't have a Sookie-style freakout, guys, there's probably a totally reasonable explanation for this.
First, Luke and Lorelai don't have to get married to be in a committed relationship. Since Lorelai has a tendency to run when she hears the wedding bells, maybe she and Luke decided it was best for their relationship if they never officially became Mr. and Mrs. Danes. Besides, having an unwed daughter in a live-in relationship would shock and disgust Emily Gilmore, which Lorelai would no doubt delight in.
Or maybe Luke and Lorelai are getting married, but Lorelai is opposed to the kind of sexist idea of “ownership” that comes along with an engagement ring. I can totally see her insisting she will only wear a ring if Luke also wears one. And Luke isn’t a diamond ring type of guy; he’s more of the solid gold band type.
There could be many reasons why Lorelai isn’t wearing an engagement ring in these photos. No matter what, there's certain to be something whimsical behind it. Such is the way of the Lorelai. We’ll all just have to wait until the day after Thanksgiving when, leftovers in hand, we watch all four parts of the Gilmore Girls revival to find out.
