There are just two seasons of Game of Thrones left and as devastating as that is for the fans, it is downright dangerous for your favorite characters. Westeros is a harsh world that precious few people make it out of alive. Sure, occasionally people come back from the dead, like Jon Snow, but if they do most of them end up joining an army of ice zombies. The cruel reality is most of the Game of Thrones characters are not going to make it to the end of the story. There are going to be heroic deaths, senseless deaths, assassinations, and at least one person will probably be eaten by Daenerys' dragons. That is just how this show rolls.
The best thing you can do is prepare yourself for the worst. If your favorite character somehow survives Seasons 7 and 8, then you can think of it as the best surprise ever, but if they end up dead on the battlefield at least you won't be too shocked. The one thing you should have taken away from Season 6 is if someone you adored like say, Osha, suddenly reappears then they are going to die. Likewise, the big bads are all in trouble — selfish, evil characters wreak a lot of havoc, but Joffrey and Ramsay's deaths prove their reigns of terror always come to an end. And noble characters like The Black Fish? So doomed.
With that in mind, here are 13 Game of Thrones characters who are definitely goners.
1. Cersei Lannister
Cersei sealed her fate the moment she took a seat on the Iron Throne. The minute she went all scorched earth on the sept, it was over. It's not a question of if Cersei will die — it is a question of which one of her valonqars will put a sword in her back.
2. Jorah Mormont
Even if Jorah does as his Khaleesi commanded and finds a cure for his greyscale, the noble knight is going to die to save Daenerys. He pledged his life to her, and his undying love is only going to fade when he stops drawing a breath.
3. Melisandre
You do not get to burn a child alive and live to the end of the story, even if you are an ancient worshiper of the Lord of Light. There are some things even R'hllor cannot save Melisandre from and justice is one of them.
4. Theon Greyjoy
Theon has been living on borrowed time since he helped Sansa escape from Ramsay. After all he has been through, it would at least be nice to see Theon find some peace before his inevitable demise.
5. Gendry
Oh sweet, Gendry. If the rumors of Gendry's Season 7 return prove to be true, his time among the living will likely be as short as Rickon's. He always was too precious for this world, and his return is likely a way for the show to wrap up a loose plot thread.
6. Davos Seaworth
Again, Davos is too good of a man to make it through the game of thrones in one piece. I would not be at all surprised if he dies for Jon in a scene designed to crush as many hearts as possible.
7. Yara Greyjoy
It would a pleasant surprise to see Yara live to rule the Iron Islands, but with her Uncle Euron out for blood, I am almost certain Yara will die beside her brother.
8. Jaime Lannister
Cersei always said she and Jaime came in the world together and they would leave it together, and I have a feeling she was right. Either Jaime will kill Cersei and be unable to live with himself, or he will die by the sword he gave Brienne of Tarth. No matter what happens, it is going to be tragic.
9. The Hound
Sometimes it feels like The Hound has nine lives, but at this point his next brush with death will likely be the one that gets him. My only hope is he takes what is left of his monstrous brother down with him.
10. Littlefinger
Sansa is totally going to do him in. There is no one Littlefinger thinks he can't outmaneuver, but his soft spot for Sansa is going to be his greatest downfall.
11. Meera Reed
Standing by the Starks has proven fatal for so many people, and I don't think Meera will be immune. As the last living member of Bran's posse, she has a huge target on her back.
12. Grey Worm
I don't want to think about it either, but Grey Worm's survival rates are low. There's nothing Game of Thrones loves more than getting people invested in a relationship before tragically ending the couple's happiness.
13. Arya Stark
Arya is simply too far gone. She will keep marking names off her list until she reunites with her siblings and shatters hearts everywhere when she makes the ultimate sacrifice for her family. Shut up, you're the one who is crying.
With two seasons left, Game of Thrones has plenty of time left to break your heart. Go ahead and say your goodbyes to these characters now because their futures are looking pretty bleak.
