It's the Most Tweeted About Show Ever, BITCH!

by Rachel Semigran

It feels like it's been ages since that Breaking Bad-shaped hole was made in our hearts, but its power on the Twitosphere still continues. Research company Neilsen Social has just released data from the 2013-2014 television season which shows that the Breaking Bad finale was the most tweeted about series of the year with 9.1 million people talking about the finale as it aired. Without surprise, The Super Bowl came in as the most mentioned sports event on Twitter while the Oscars and Grammys duked it out for top special. Thanks to that little selfie tweet Ellen sent out, the Oscars took the top spot.

Among the top 10 tweeted-about television series were The Walking Dead, Pretty Little Liars, The Bachelor, Game of Thrones, Teen Wolf, American Horror Story, Scandal, The Voice, and Dancing With the Stars. But alas, none of themn could compete with Breaking Bad stars Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston live-tweeting the finale. The last episode broke Twitter records for simultaneously being the most-tweeted about single airing and most-tweeted about over time.

Sadly, the State of the Union came in 7th in the specials category behind the Oscars, Grammys, Golden Globes, American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards and even the MTV Movie Awards. Oh, America...

In any case, let's take a look at some of our favorite celebrity tweets from the most-tweeted about television of the 2013-2014 season:

Breaking Bad

Aww, you guys!

The Oscars aka The Night of the TwitPic

The Grammys

The best, and most-mentioned, retweeted, and favorited tweet of the night!

The Super Bowl

In case you missed it, Aziz Ansari started the #FNLBOWL2 trend and it was better than the actual Super Bowl.
