9 Beyonce Looks That Will Go Down in History

by Mary Avant

At the risk of sounding utterly and completely repetitive, Beyoncé is amazing. Beyond amazing, actually. Not only does she have one of the most amazing voices ever and knows how to give one hell of a performance, but she’s also gorgeous, is the mother to one of the cutest kids on the planet, and is married to an equally famous and powerful husband (with whom she may or may not be a member of the Illuminati).

And though she’s been recognized again and again at awards shows across the globe for her unparalleled talents — just this week, for example, Beyoncé received the most nominations for the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards — the singer and performer has never been formally honored for her unbelievable fashion sense. Until now, that is. According to The Cut, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will display Beyoncé’s seven most iconic dresses to ever hit the red carpet over her long and illustrious career.

How the museum could narrow it down to just seven ensembles, I’ll never know, but here are nine Beyoncé gowns I think should go down in history as some of the best to ever walk the red carpet. (Don't even get me started on her best performance costumes, because that list would be about a million items long.)

1. Her Givenchy Couture gown at the 2014 Met Gala

As if the super-flattering cut and gorgeous fabric of this couture gown weren't enough, she went and added that beyond-chic veil and vampy lip for an extra touch of fierce fashion.

2. Her Michael Costello dress at the 2014 Grammys

All thoughts of her somewhat-boring performance with Jay Z flew rapidly out of my head the second I saw Beyoncé in this masterfully feminine-yet-sexy ensemble.

3. Her Osman jumpsuit at the 2013 Grammys

Fabulous gown? Not exactly. But there's something so understatedly sophisticated about this structured black and white number that will make it an ensemble to remember for years to come.

4. Her Stephane Rolland Couture gown at the 2012 BET Awards

From the luminous color and draped fit to the fierce hair and statement-making belt, this entire ensemble screamed "diva."

This feathered, illusion-netted gown is certain to go down in history as not only Beyoncé's best ensemble, but one of the most breathtaking to ever walk the red carpet.

6. Her Lanvin caftan at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards

What better way to make the best baby-bump debut ever than in a gorgeously color-packed Lanvin gown?

7. Her Stephane Rolland gown at the 2010 Grammys

Showing off her curves for days, this embroidered gown will give even the most confident ladies a dose of body envy.

8. Her Atelier Versace gown at the 2009 MTV European Music Awards

From the iridescent sheen to the armored bodice, this strapless gown is nothing if not fierce and flattering.

Balmain sure knows how to make a good mini, and Beyonce sure knows how to pull it off: with sexy legs and stunning shoes.
