Her Response to Martha Stewart is Really Sweet

by Kadeen Griffiths

I don't know about you, but when two celebrities are having an argument I usually expect a lot more verbal fisticuffs. Take, for example, Lil' Kim and Nicki Minaj. So far Lil' Kim has released two diss tracks (recently) aimed at Minaj for some vague insult that she thinks Minaj made. And what about George Clooney's feud with the Daily Mail (if the Daily Mail counts as a celebrity)? Clooney was pulling no punches in those well-worded USA Today op ed pieces. I don't mean to be that girl, but Blake Lively and Martha Stewart are doing it wrong. When Stewart essentially said Lively's website was stupid and derided her efforts to follow in Stewart's footsteps, that was a major burn — sort of. Now Lively has responded to Stewart's comments and it's literally like the two of them don't know they're supposed to be at war.

Admittedly, Stewart and Lively have been friends for years, which is probably why Stewart's comments weren't as scathing as they could have been. In fact, what she actually said was, "I mean, it’s stupid, she could be an actress! Why would you want to be me if you could be an actress? I just did a movie yesterday, though — I can’t even tell you about it — but I want to be Blake Lively."

Lively's response was equally un-harsh. "I want to have my own path professionally and even as she said, I'm an actress... I think ultimately, I will always be doing both, but one is going to be paying the bills better than the other," said Lively to E! Online. "Who doesn't want to be Martha Stewart? Martha Stewart has been a huge inspiration to me my entire life... I always say that Martha Stewart Living is the only magazine I ever had growing up. I never had Tiger Beat or any of that stuff."

So basically, Martha Stewart thinks it's stupid that Lively is doing lifestyle when she's such a great actress and someone Stewart wants to be and Lively enjoys what she's doing with the lifestyle website and would love to be like Stewart. Apparently, we now live in a world where two celebrities can be in a feud by wanting to be just like each other. Or perhaps we live in a world where people focused too much on the word "stupid" in Stewart's sentence and not enough on the fact that she and Lively are playing grass-is-always-greener with each other's lives.

Quite honestly, this should be more enough to set this entire subject to rest. Stewart and Lively are friends and they're not truly at odds with one another. Stewart could definitely have been more careful with what words she chose to use, but she and Lively seem to deeply admire one another and it's great to see that kind of thing among female celebrities each days. We've had more than enough feuds.
