How Could He Not Be the First Choice Oscar Host?!

by Alana Milich

When the news broke last week that Neil Patrick Harris is hosting the Oscars, the first thought that came to my head was: OF COURSE HE IS. And I didn't say it sarcastically, I said it with admiration and a loving sigh. Because Neil Patrick Harris should host everything, could host everything, and probably will host everything before he shuffles off this mortal coil that can barely contain its joy when he hosts awards shows. But then we got the news on Wednesday that he wasn't the first choice to host the 2015 Oscars and I'm seriously confused by this. Who wouldn't want NPH to host? Are you crazy?! Well, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Harris was fourth in line to host the Oscars, and that just boggles my mind.

Listen, I get the reasons why the other potential hosting talents of Ellen DeGeneres, Chris Rock, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus were sought out. Ellen did a pretty great job of hosting the Oscars this year and took the selfie seen around the world. Rock and Louis-Dreyfus are equally as hilarious and would probably knock the hosting gig out the park. But Harris was fourth in line? Really? I completely agree that the short list for hosts this year is pretty amazing considering it features not only an African-American potential host, but also two women, as options. As awesome as that is and as much as I would like to see more of that progressive host-picking in the future, I'm going to say that Harris should've been an obvious shoe-in for this hosting job.

Oh, you want proof? Here's your proof, America:

Did you see the adorable way he announced getting the job?

Hosting the Oscars was on his bucket list, along with having kids, meeting the president, and sleeping in Cinderella's castle. NPH is living the dream.

He's already won 4 Emmy Awards for hosting the Tony Awards

How many times NPH has hosted the Tonys: 4.

How many times NPH won an Emmy Award for hosting the Tonys: 4.

Watch out Angela Lansbury, one day he's coming after your five-time hosting record!

He's got stamina & now has a Tony Award to prove it

NPH won a Tony Award for the title role in Hedwig and the Angry Inch and if you were lucky enough to see him the show, you know that he's got some serious stamina. Hedwig runs an hour and half long without any intermissions and Harris needed to have high energy and high intensity the entire time. We know for sure he wouldn't burn out towards the end of the Oscars and bum everyone out with a tired face and lame jokes, because if he can entertain in heels on Broadway eight shows a week, then he can definitely entertain the best and brightest of Hollywood on their big night.

The Oscars work best when they try to be the Tonys

Musical numbers as Oscar openers are nothing new, as we saw in Hugh Jackman's opening number at the 2009 Oscars. But let me tell you, when they're done right, musical numbers kick off the show in the best way possible. I love a good monologue, but I'd rather see Jackman or NPH sing and dance any day.

Do you remember this song? Because it was legendary.

Damnnnnnnnnn, NPH! Props to In The Heights writer and star Lin Manuel-Miranda for speed-writing this bit and major props to NPH for absolutely nailing it.

Just re-live this video again and imagine him singing on the Oscars stage

Not convinced of his hosting abilities? Just watch this video again, and then let's talk. Even when he's singing about nothing, he makes it interesting.

Even Tina Fey wants him to sing at the Oscars

She told E! Online her advive to NPH is, "Sing because you can. Just sing the whole time. He can really sing."

And if Tina Fey wants it, we all hope Tina Fey gets it.

In conclusion, Neil Patrick Harris should host everything in the world. I respect your decision if you disagree with me, but I would like you to know that you are wrong.
