Last Christmas (*I gave you my hearrrrrt*—ah, sorry, had to) I was working for a bakery, which happens to be the only one in my bustling and dessert-loving town. In the weeks leading up to Christmas, I learned a few things about myself and my community. The most important among these was that, deep down inside, we are all Cookie Monster. It helped that this bakery pretty much baked every Christmas cookie under the sun and that we had a very steadfast and dedicated (if not occasionally awkward) delivery girl (hint: me). Those three weeks in December were some of the busiest of the entire year. We didn't even have counters anymore. We just had rows and rows of cookie trays getting prepped or flipped or eaten by rogue employees (hint: me again), and lines of customers that would sometimes quite literally go out the door (a door that literally blew off its hinges at one point during a holiday rush, that's how serious this town's cookie-lust was).
It's not hard to understand the appeal of hitting up a bakery around the holidays: As easy as it is to make your own cookies at home, there is something undeniably comforting about having someone else take care of the hard part for you, especially when it gives you a much wider variety of cookie to choose from. As a result of my experiences during the holiday bakery frenzy, I feel pretty confident about being able to analyze people based on their favorite cookies.
