All of Your Oscar Questions, Answered

In case you haven't checked any social media, the 2015 Oscar nominations were announced Thursday morning and there is a lot to talk about. There were some surprise nominations, some nominations that felt predictable, and some that were straight up missing — I'm looking at you Amy Adams and Jennifer Aniston, you were snubbed, my friends. If you are still processing the nominations like I am, you may find yourself asking a ton of questions about the 2015 Academy Award nominations, and fear not, because you are not alone. I have questions, too, so here are the answers to your most burning 2015 Oscar nomination questions.

How Many of This Year's Acting Nominees Have Won Oscars Before?

In total, 6 Oscars have been won by the acting nominees.

Marion Cotillard for La Vie En Rose; Reese Witherspoon for Walk the Line; Meryl Streep for Kramer vs. Kramer, Sophie's Choice, The Iron Lady; and Robert Duvall for Tender Mercies. Many nominees have been nominated many, many times before.

How Many 2015 Golden Globe Winners Were Nominated?

Out of the six film acting categories at the Golden Globes, five winners were nominated today (Patricia Arquette, Eddie Redmayne, Michael Keaton, Julianne Moore, and J.K. Simmons). Amy Adams, who won a Golden Globe for her role in Big Eyes, was not nominated.

How Many Nominated Films Are Based Off Real Events?

Have Any Acting Nominees Ever Won Razzies?

Yes! Patricia Arquette (for Little Nicky), and Bradley Cooper (for All About Steve) are two previous Razzie winners.

Others have been nominated for Razzies, but were never bestowed the honor of winning one.

Were the Nominations Diverse?

Absolutely not. The Golden Globes gave a lot of people hope that diversity would do great at the Oscars, but as Good Morning America put it, this year was a "white wash." Selma, which had a great representation at the Globes didn't get nominated for Best Director nor Best Actor, which many were expecting, and shocked to see.

Additionally, there was a lack of women in the nominations. From screenplay, to editing, the number of women nominated in categories outside of Best Actress categories was bleak.

How Many Talked About Snubs Occurred?

There are a handful, depending on your excitement for the films this year. Big names that seemed to be missing from the nominations list were Jennifer Aniston in Cake, Amy Adams in Big Eyes, The Lego Movie for Animated Film, David Oyelowo in Selma, Gillian Flynn for Best Screenplay of Gone Girl and Ava DuVernay for Best Director of Selma.

What Film Was Nominated the Most, Across All Categories?

Grand Budapest Hotel and Birdman have tied for the most nods by The Academy. They have both received nine nominations.

How Many Oscars Has Meryl Streep Been Nominated For?

How much time do you have? Streep has been nominated for 18 Oscars since 1979. She's won three.
