Prepare For More Vamp Drama in 'Originals' Book

by Caitlin White

In the grand tradition of TV spin-off novels of Veronica Mars, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and yes, even Stephanie Tanner from Full House , there's now a book series based on The Originals , CW's popular vampire series. The Originals: The Rise was released this week, and there are plans for at least two more to come this year. And before you worry: The Rise was written by Julie Plec, The Originals; creator and The Vampire Diaries co-creator, so it's not some halfhearted knockoff of one of your favorite shows.

The Rise is set long before there was Haylijah (and even Hayley and Klaus), way, way back to 1722 New Orleans where Klaus, Elijah and Rebekah Mikaelson have moved to escape their dangerous past. But, come on, 1722 New Orleans? Needless to say the Mikaelson siblings can't stay away from danger for long, especially in this lawless city overrun by witches and werewolves. And while we know that the Mikaelsons have vowed that family is power, there are a whole lot of outsiders who want to ensure the siblings can't keep that promise of loyalty.

You may only have to wait a week for the next installment of The Originals or The Vampire Diaries, but you're going to have to wait a little longer for the next books in the series. Book two, The Originals: The Loss will hit shelves on March 31; book three, The Originals: The Resurrection, on May 31.

(Also, hello there Klaus Mikaelson on the cover.)

These three books aren't the only way Vampire Diaries and Originals fans can get their fix in between episodes. The Originals: The Awakening is a webseries that focuses on Kol Mikaelson's past. Each episode is only about two minutes, but hey, we get what we can get. And luckily, we just found out this month that The Originals has been renewed for another season, so we can continue this love for at least another year.
